NYT Strands today: clues, spangram, and solutions for Wednesday, April 23
Strands is a newly launched daily puzzle from the New York Times. This puzzle offers a more challenging spin on the traditional word search, requiring a sharp eye to solve it. Similar to Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can prove tricky to complete on certain days. There's no embarrassment in seeking a bit of assistance when needed. If you find yourself at a standstill and require the solutions for today’s Strands puzzle, take a look at the resolved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
Each Strands puzzle begins with the objective of identifying the “theme words” concealed within the letter grid. You can manipulate the letters by dragging or tapping to form words; double-tap the last letter to confirm your choice. When you discover a correct word, the letters will be highlighted in blue and will no longer be selectable.
Finding a word that isn’t one of the theme words is still beneficial! For every three non-theme words you locate that consist of at least four letters, you will receive a hint — revealing the letters of one theme word, which you will then need to unscramble.
Every letter in the grid contributes to spelling out the theme words with no overlaps, and each letter is used exactly once.
Every puzzle features a “spangram,” a specific theme word (or words) that encapsulate the puzzle’s theme and spans across two opposite sides of the grid. When you identify the spangram, it will be highlighted in yellow.
The aim is to finish the puzzle promptly without over-relying on hints.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows seems to have been rated for the Nintendo Switch 2
The Pan European Game Information website, commonly known as PEGI, has just rated Assassin's Creed Shadows for the Nintendo Switch 2, which strongly suggests that the game could be coming to the console around or after its launch on June 5. However, it's also possible that there was a mistake on the website and Ubisoft may not plan to bring the game to the Switch 2, so take this with caution.
PEGI acts as the European version of the ESRB, tasked with recommending the suitable age for games. While the specific page for Assassin's Creed Shadows doesn’t mention the Nintendo Switch 2, it is listed under the “Most Searched Games” section.

Fortnite is adding another Star Wars crossover, featuring Jar Jar Binks
The upcoming Battle Pass for Fortnite will be themed around Star Wars (titled Galactic Battle), and it will launch in less than two weeks on May 2. It will also introduce Darth Jar Jar, which is sure to lead to many “mesa winner” jokes. This announcement was made during Star Wars Celebration, providing a wealth of details on the potential new additions, including the introduction of Force Lightning as a gameplay ability.
In addition to Jar Jar, players can also unlock skins like Emperor Palpatine through the Battle Pass. There will be mashups with existing Fortnite characters, including the Wookie Cuddle Team Leader (who wouldn’t want to cuddle a Wookie?), among others. Players can buy a Mace Windu skin from the Item Shop and use new vehicles like the TIE Fighter and X-Wing.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is excellent but should not have been split into two parts
Despite being a groundbreaking narrative adventure game, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage still follows a release approach that no longer suits the genre.
Lost Records is one of the standout games launched in 2025 so far. It narrates a classic coming-of-age story that embraces 90s nostalgia. It employs the choice-driven adventure game format pioneered by Telltale and Don't Nod's early works but adds innovative elements, such as shifting perspectives between the past and future and enabling players to film the environment with a gyroscopic camcorder. I highly recommend you play it now that it’s fully available, but I feel uneasy that I couldn’t wholeheartedly endorse it until now.
