Lucid Gravity propels electric SUVs into a new realm.
After a lengthy takeoff roll, the Lucid Air electric luxury sedan debuted in 2020 and raised the bar for EV range, efficiency, and charging. The Air is a commendable first effort, but its sales potential as a sedan is limited. Therefore, the 2025 Lucid Gravity — the manufacturer’s second model and first SUV — could be even more crucial for Lucid's future.
Offered in both a two-row, five-seat and a three-row, seven-seat layout, the Gravity aims to attract a larger group of new car buyers who seek additional space or need a vehicle suitable for their families and Instagram-worthy lifestyles. However, such buyers already have numerous options, including the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Rivian R1S, and Volvo EX90, as well as the two-row BMW iX.
Similar to the Air, the Gravity is designed to excel in efficiency while providing ample interior space and sporty driving characteristics. However, Lucid is also repeating its strategy from the Air by initially launching pricier models and subsequently offering more affordable versions. For the 2025 model year, the only available Gravity trim is the Grand Touring, which starts at $96,550 but can easily exceed $100,000 with add-ons. Initial impressions suggest that buyers will receive exceptional engineering for their investment.

In physics, gravity and mass are closely linked, but that's not the case here. While not exactly lightweight, the Gravity weighs just under 6,000 pounds due to extensive aluminum usage, which is impressive for a large electric SUV. It also boasts good aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.24, surpassing the 0.25 of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, which is similarly designed in a wind tunnel.
To achieve this low drag coefficient, Lucid adopted a considerably different design approach compared to Mercedes, resulting in a look that sets the Gravity apart from current SUVs. While it features a tall, flat hood, the snub nose and generous midsection resemble a minivan, and the tapered rear gives the Gravity a wagon-like appearance from certain angles. Like the Lucid Air sedan, the aerodynamic rear design requires a clamshell hatch that opens wide for cargo loading while concealing unsightly shut lines.
These design elements, alongside features such as meticulously sculpted mirrors, sharp corners, and underbody aero components, not only reduce drag but also establish a distinctive design language for Lucid, according to Derek Jenkins, the company’s senior vice president of design and brand.
The snub nose and generous midsection are almost minivan-like.
These design choices maximize available space. The Gravity provides more headroom in the first row and legroom in the second row compared to the EQS SUV, and its more upright body sides make the third row feel significantly less cramped while providing more headroom than the third row of a Volvo EX90.
With all seats folded, the Lucid offers considerably more cargo space than the Mercedes or Volvo. The Cadillac Escalade IQ has slightly more cargo capacity, but it's a much larger vehicle, exceeding the Gravity’s length by over two feet. Lucid has also added an 8.1-cubic foot frunk that serves as a bench, and the rear seats fold completely flat, allowing ample space for an air mattress due to the design that eliminates intrusive shock towers.
The Gravity’s cabin updates the minimalist look of the Air, featuring simple shapes like the scalloped door panels and a subtle arrangement of air vents and display screens on the dashboard that enhance visual interest without unnecessary trim. The material quality aligns with the six-figure price of the test vehicle.

While there is a clear connection between the interiors of the Air and Gravity, the latter features a high-mounted dashboard display positioned closer to the driver’s line of sight. This 34.0-inch display, which requires a smaller, square steering wheel
