NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Monday, April 14.

Connections is one of the top puzzle games from the New York Times. The objective is to categorize a selection of 16 words into four hidden groups by determining how the words are related. The puzzle resets every night at midnight, with each new challenge varying in difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare your scores with your friends.

Some days may present more challenges than others, much like other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're struggling with today's puzzle, you can refer to our guide with tips and strategies for playing Connections or check the hints provided for today's puzzle below. If you're still stuck, we’ll supply the answers to today's Connections puzzle at the end.

      How to Play Connections

Connections is a daily game focused on identifying common links between words. Players need to select four groups of four words without exceeding three mistakes. You can start playing now at https://t.co/YITfSnqODb.

You can enjoy Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available on iOS and Android. In Connections, you will see a grid with 16 words—your task is to arrange these words into four sets of four by discovering the connections that unite them. These sets could involve themes such as titles of video game series, sequels to book series, various shades of red, names of chain restaurants, and so on.

You may encounter words that seem applicable to several themes, but there is only one entirely correct answer. You can shuffle the grid and rearrange the words to better identify potential connections. Each group is color-coded, with the yellow group being the simplest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple.

To make a guess, select four words and click Submit. If you are correct, those four words will be eliminated from the grid, and the theme linking them will be disclosed. An incorrect guess will count as a mistake, and you have a total of four mistakes available before the game concludes.

Who edits the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles for The New York Times since 2020, oversees Connections on a daily basis. “A few months ago, I received a new assignment: Create game boards for Connections, a category-matching game that had recently been approved and was in need of an editor,” Liu explained in an article detailing her process in June 2024. “Most of my puzzle experience has been with crosswords, and I was eager to try something new. I’ve enjoyed discovering how puzzle editing unfolds after a game is greenlighted and observing how our team integrates into a larger ecosystem.”

On the anniversary of Connections launching earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok featuring her favorite puzzles so far:
