NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Sunday, April 13.

Connections is among the top puzzle games offered by the New York Times. The objective of the game is to categorize a collection of 16 words into four distinct groups, uncovering how the words are connected to one another. The puzzle resets nightly at midnight, with each new puzzle presenting a varying level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, players can track their winning streak and compare scores with friends.

Some days can be more challenging than others, much like other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're struggling with today’s puzzle, take a look at our Connections tips and tricks guide for useful strategies, or refer to the hints for today’s Connections puzzle provided below. If you’re still unable to solve it, we’ll disclose today’s answers at the end.

      How to play Connections

Connections is a daily game focused on identifying common links among words. Players need to select four groups of four words while making no more than three mistakes. Play now at https://t.co/YITfSnqODb pic.twitter.com/CqObVOqeUs

You can engage with Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available on iOS and Android.

In Connections, you’ll see a grid of 16 words, and your goal is to sort these words into four sets of four by recognizing the relationships that connect them. These groups might represent themes such as titles of video game series, sequels in book series, shades of red, names of fast-food chains, etc.

Some words may seem suitable for multiple themes, but there is only one completely correct solution. You can shuffle the word grid and rearrange it to help identify possible connections.

Each group is color-coded, with yellow being the easiest to solve, followed by green, blue, and then purple groups.

Choose four words and click Submit. If your selection is correct, those four words will be removed from the grid, revealing the theme that connects them. If you err, it counts as a mistake. You have a total of four mistakes available before the game concludes.

Who is responsible for editing the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been managing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, edits Connections on a daily basis.

“A few months ago, a new assignment was presented to me: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently received approval and was looking for an editor,” Liu detailed in an article explaining her process in June 2024. “Most of my experience has been in crossword puzzles, so I was thrilled to explore something new. I have enjoyed learning how puzzle editing functions once a game is approved and seeing how our team integrates into a broader system.”

On the one-year anniversary of Connections' launch earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok celebrating her favorite puzzles thus far:
