1923 has concluded. Here are five additional shows you ought to check out.
The journey for 1923 has come to an end. The popular prequel to Yellowstone recently concluded its second season with a dramatic finale. Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 delved into the Dutton family's origins in 1923. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren portray Jacob and Cara Dutton, who confront challenges on multiple fronts to safeguard their ranch during the challenging times of Prohibition and the onset of the Great Depression.
Sheridan intended for 1923 to be a two-season series. It remains uncertain whether the prolific showrunner will craft a third season despite high ratings. For now, here are five series to consider if you enjoyed 1923.

Yellowstone (2018-2024)
Paramount Network
If you're going to select one Sheridan series to complement 1923, Yellowstone is the most logical choice, as it served as the inspiration for the Ford-led prequel. Yellowstone introduces audiences to the Dutton family, who own the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and are arguably the most powerful family in Montana.
John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is the family's patriarch who oversees every facet of the largest ranch in the state. Together with his children (Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes), the Duttons contend with political pressures and corporate greed, facing obstacles from wealthy businessmen, government officials, and an Indian reservation. Yellowstone presents itself as a Western soap opera disguised as a drama (in a positive way). Additionally, anyone who watches just one episode may find themselves searching for flights to Montana.

American Primeval (2025)
Matt Kennedy / Netflix
American Primeval presents a raw depiction of Western expansion. Executive produced by Peter Berg, it weaves several interconnected narratives set in 1857 during the Utah War. Among the most gripping storylines is that of Isaac (Taylor Kitsch), a skilled woodsman who agrees to assist Sara (Betty Gilpin) and her son, Devin (Preston Mota), in crossing the frontier.
The series also highlights the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its Mormon militia, who engage in violent confrontations with other cultures in the region. If you're in search of a series that glorifies expansion, this is not it. It is a violent yet captivating viewing experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Godless (2017)
Netflix
Before winning multiple Emmys for The Queen’s Gambit, Scott Frank created the underrated Godless, a Western drama set in 1884. Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell) is an outlaw on the run after betraying his boss, the notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels), known for his brutality and violence.
Roy seeks refuge in La Belle, a New Mexico town populated solely by women following a mining accident that claimed most of the men. The hardened widow Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery) agrees to tend to Roy's injuries. However, when word spreads that Frank and his gang are approaching La Belle, Alice and the townsfolk prepare to defend their home at all costs. Given that Westerns often focus on male characters, Godless provides a refreshing change by centering on a strong female narrative.

Hell on Wheels (2011-2016)
FX
During the 2010s, AMC was not solely focused on The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men; they also presented Hell on Wheels, a Western drama set in the Civil War's aftermath. Former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount) is on a quest to track down the Union soldiers who murdered his wife and son.
Bohannon journeys west to work on constructing the Transcontinental Railroad, known as “Hell on Wheels.” Throughout its five-season run, Hell on Wheels transitions from a tale of revenge to a narrative exploring political conflict, personal ambition, and the development of the American frontier. This shift in focus and its exploration of a new frontier contributed to the show’s longevity.

The Mandalorian (2019-)
Disney
How does a Star Wars series make it onto this list? The Mandalorian can be seen as a space Western, reminiscent of Clint Eastwood as an outlaw clad in an armored suit. Premiering in 2019, The Mandalorian has quickly become the most prominent Star Wars series on Disney+. Starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter (“Mando”) operating five years after Return of the Jedi, the show captivates audiences.
An old Imperial client enlists Mando to capture a target alive. Upon discovering that the target is a young green infant named Grogu, Mando
