Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and other X-Men actors join the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

Welcome to the Mutant Era of the MCU.
On March 26, Marvel Studios announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday through a live stream on the company’s YouTube channel. Every 10 to 12 minutes, an actor’s chair was unveiled, indicating their role in the fifth Avengers film. One of the most significant highlights from the live stream is the inclusion of the X-Men. Actors reprising their roles from the X-Men series for Doomsday include Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit.
Stewart, McKellen, Romijn, and Marsden were part of the original X-Men trilogy (2000-2006) under 20th Century Fox. Cumming debuted as Nightcrawler in X2, while Grammer appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand. After a standalone film was scrapped, Tatum eventually portrayed Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Since Disney took over 20th Century Fox, the X-Men have gradually been integrated into the MCU. Stewart made his MCU debut as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Grammer made a brief appearance as Beast in the post-credits of The Marvels.
While Marvel has not revealed the complete cast for Doomsday, additional X-Men casting updates may be announced in the future. There is also speculation that Marvel is keeping further X-Men appearances, such as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Halle Berry as Storm, a secret.
The Russo Brothers are back at Marvel to direct Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. You can view the full cast of Avengers: Doomsday here.
