A surprise Nintendo Direct is scheduled for tomorrow, but don’t anticipate any news regarding the Switch 2.
Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Direct presentation taking place tomorrow, March 27, at 7 a.m. PT, just days before the anticipated Switch 2 Direct. This presentation will highlight upcoming Switch games, so expectations for any surprises regarding the Switch 2 should be tempered.

In a brief announcement via the official Nintendo of America X account (formerly Twitter), Nintendo disclosed that a Nintendo Direct is set to air early on March 27. The only information provided is that the broadcast will be approximately 30 minutes long, showcasing upcoming Switch titles. The post also notes explicitly that “There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation.” With the Switch 2 direct already planned for April 2, it seems logical that new information on it would not be part of this surprise presentation. This livestream can be viewed on the official Nintendo YouTube channel.
What we may expect are updates on some long-awaited games, particularly a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and possibly one for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. These are two of the last significant first-party titles announced for the original Switch that have yet to be released. Beyond these titles, there do not appear to be any major games still confirmed for the original Switch as the company prepares to launch its new console. It's likely that the remainder of the presentation will consist of third-party ports and perhaps a few remasters that haven't yet reached the Switch.
With the Switch 2 approaching, this Direct may be the final spotlight for the current system. While there may be opportunities for some pleasant surprises, fans should manage their expectations regarding major announcements at this showcase.

I want the Nintendo Switch 2 to incorporate this Wii U feature.
When Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2, some online expressed disappointment that the console did not represent a significant departure from the original Switch. It remains a hybrid console that can be docked to play on a TV or used on the go, now featuring enhanced graphics, a larger screen, and new Joy-Cons. Nonetheless, Nintendo has an intriguing feature planned, though it is less prominent than the Wii's motion controls.
The new Joy-Cons for the Switch 2 are not only larger and magnetic but seem to also have new mouse-like capabilities. This could pave the way for numerous new games we hope to see on the Switch 2 that could leverage this distinctive control scheme.
Now that the Switch 2 has been officially introduced, everyone is eager to reserve their copy of the new console. The initial trailer provided a brief look at the system and reassured many with the confirmation of backward compatibility. Unfortunately, the one crucial detail many were hoping for—the release date—was absent from the reveal. We know it is set for 2025, and there will be events worldwide to try it early, but most just want to preorder so they can ensure they have it upon launch. Although you cannot technically reserve the Switch 2 just yet, we can guide you on how to be among the first to know when reservations become available.
As of this writing, preorders for the Switch 2 are not yet open at any retailer. It is expected that they will become available once the full release date and pricing are announced, probably on April 2 during the next Direct. However, some retailers are allowing customers to sign up for email notifications regarding when preorders will begin. Here are the places you can sign up for alerts:
Best Buy
You can go to the Best Buy store and register for their email notifications. These emails will contain information about the console as well as updates on games and other related topics.
GameStop
GameStop has launched a product page for the Switch 2 and also provides emails regarding pre-orders, news, and forthcoming games.
Now that the Nintendo Switch 2's formal reveal has occurred and it's set to launch in 2025, we can finally shift our focus from hardware rumors to the vital aspect of any console: the software. The Switch 2 was introduced with footage of Mario Kart 9 and highlights of its backward compatibility, leaving plenty of room for anticipation about other games expected to join the lineup. With numerous new features and increased power to support games that weren't feasible on the original Switch, a plethora of possibilities has arisen for new games we'd love to see on the Switch 2.
