3 PlayStation Plus games to enjoy this weekend (March 14-16)
Sony Interactive Entertainment
At the start of March, there were only a few upcoming PS5 titles, but the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed Shadows is just around the corner. However, we still have a whole weekend to enjoy before its release, which is where your PlayStation Plus subscription comes in handy. The Essential games for March are very impressive, and the extensive catalog of Extra and Premium games offers an exciting mix to get you pumped for anticipated games like Death Stranding 2. Alternatively, it could be an excellent opportunity to discover a fun, shorter game to keep you entertained until the new releases dominate your time. As always, I have carefully chosen the top games in PlayStation Plus for your weekend play.
Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
Even prior to the reveal of Shadows, Ghost of Tsushima was being hailed as the Japanese Assassin’s Creed game that Ubisoft should have developed years ago. While this statement might oversimplify things, the parallels are undeniable, and the games will inevitably be compared. Whether you choose to play Shadows or not, Ghost remains a breathtaking game with some of the finest graphics on PS5. As you explore the vibrant island of Tsushima by following the wind and animals instead of map markers, you truly begin to appreciate the world you are fighting to protect. If you haven’t experienced the Director’s Cut content yet, diving back in for the Iki Island DLC could be the highlight of the entire experience. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is currently available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
Transitioning from one director’s cut to another, this week we also learned the release date for Death Stranding 2, accompanied by an extensive trailer that raised more questions than it answered. The direction of the sequel’s storyline is uncertain, but it is clear that playing the first game is crucial. If you haven’t yet delved into Death Stranding for any reason, it’s best to give yourself ample time to adjust to its slow pace and distinctive method of storytelling and world-building. The primary gameplay revolves around making deliveries through challenging landscapes, with minimal combat against humans and more fantastical creatures. Upon its release at the onset of the pandemic, it was a timely game, and its themes about reconnecting a fractured America feel even more salient now. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Prodeus
The two aforementioned games require significant time investments that, while rewarding, may not be what you want to start if you’re anticipating another large open-world title this week. For a more immediate, arcade-style experience that requires less commitment, consider Prodeus. This game emerged during the revival of boomer shooters and, unfortunately, got overlooked by many. It faithfully adheres to classic FPS design, bombarding players with numerous enemies across maze-like levels filled with secrets, while equipping you with a variety of powerful weapons to demolish foes. Stages can be as brief as just a few minutes if you rush through, or longer if you enjoy exploring for secrets. Whether you tackle it solo or in co-op mode, it’s the ideal pick if you’re seeking something effortlessly enjoyable to dive into. Prodeus is available right now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.

PlayStation Network is still down after more than 12 hours
Last night, the PlayStation Network experienced an outage worldwide — and it remains offline. Complaints peaked around 7 PM, with over 14,000 users reporting issues on DownDetector. Initially, many players assumed the downtime was temporary due to overloaded servers on a Friday night, but you still can’t log on, revealing further vulnerabilities in Sony's network. Sony posted on X acknowledging the outage and advised players to check status.playstation.com for updates. Unfortunately, every single feature from Account Management to PlayStation Direct is currently unavailable, and there is no estimated timeframe for resolution.

3 new PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (February 7-9)
Though it's the shortest month of the year, PlayStation continues to add new games to the PlayStation Plus catalog. The first week is always dedicated to the Essential tier, meaning these games are available to anyone with a subscription. Given the time constraints this month with a slew of upcoming PS5 titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which aren’t quite here yet, we still need engaging games to enjoy in the meantime. This weekend, we’ve got a selection of games that serve as perfect stopgaps while you wait for your next major time commitment. We have an excellent co-op title, a shorter game that could be completed in a day or two,
