NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Thursday, March 13.

Connections is one of the premier puzzle games offered by the New York Times. In this game, your task is to categorize a selection of 16 words into four hidden groups by determining how the words are related. The puzzle resets nightly at midnight, with each new challenge presenting a different level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.

Some days may prove to be more challenging than others, similar to other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're facing difficulties with today’s puzzle, refer to our Connections tips and tricks guide for effective strategies or check out the hints for today’s Connections puzzle below. If you're still unable to solve it, we'll provide today’s answers at the end.

You can access Connections via the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app on iOS or Android.

In Connections, a grid containing 16 words will be presented to you—your goal is to sort these words into four sets of four by identifying their connections. These sets could cover themes like video game franchises, sequels in book series, various shades of red, names of popular restaurants, etc.

There are often words that may fit into multiple categories, but only one arrangement is completely correct. You can shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to gain a clearer view of possible connections.

Each group is designated by color. The yellow group is the easiest to solve, followed by green, blue, and purple.

Choose four words and tap Submit. If your selection is correct, those four words will be removed from the grid and the theme that connects them will be unveiled. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake. You are allowed only four mistakes before the game concludes.

Who is the editor for the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles for The New York Times since 2020, oversees Connections daily.

"A few months ago, a new assignment came to my desk: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and was looking for an editor," Liu mentioned in an article detailing her process in June 2024. "Most of my puzzle experience has been in crosswords, and I was eager to explore something different. I’ve enjoyed learning how puzzle editing develops once a game has been approved and understanding how our team fits into a larger system."

On the first anniversary of Connections launching earlier this year, Liu shared a TikTok highlighting her favorite puzzles so far:
