Fluance targets budget-minded audio enthusiasts with the introduction of two new Reference Series speakers.
Canadian hi-fi audio manufacturer Fluance is targeting discerning listeners with two new entries in its Reference Series powered speakers — the affordably priced Ri71 bookshelf speakers and the Ri91 tower speakers, which the company claims will offer power, clarity, and an authentic musical experience as intended by the artists.
Aimed at budget-conscious audiophiles, both the Ri71 and Ri91 incorporate the company’s Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters, designed to provide clear, detailed high frequencies. Additionally, Fluance has equipped these speakers with custom-engineered waveguides around the tweeters to “guide” the sound and enhance its dispersion, creating a broader soundstage. This approach ensures a fuller room-filling sound rather than just projecting from a single point.
The new Reference Series models also excel in connectivity, featuring Bluetooth aptX HD for high-quality wireless streaming, HDMI ARC for seamless home theater integration, and RCA inputs for connecting other audio sources such as premium turntables and CD players. For those who enjoy deep bass, a subwoofer output is included for easy connection. Furthermore, the Ri71 and Ri91 come with a remote control, allowing users to adjust bass and treble levels along with other essential features.
Examining the specifications, the $400 per pair Ri71 bookshelf speakers are powered by a 120-watt amplifier and include 5-inch woven glass fiber drivers, which Fluance claims deliver rich midrange and deep bass, creating the sensation of being in the studio with the artists. The company’s digital signal processing (DSP) enhances the clarity of vocals, low frequencies, and overall sound balance.
The rigid MDF wood cabinets are designed to be acoustically inert to minimize unwanted resonance, while a front-firing port further clarifies sound by reducing resonance.
Upgrading to the $800 Ri91 tower speakers offers a more robust 150-watt amplifier and dual 6.5-inch woven glass fiber drivers. These floor-standing speakers build on the foundation laid by the Ai81 Elite powered speakers, engineered for room-filling sound and featuring the enhanced AMT tweeters, DSP, and a front-firing bass port for superior clarity and frequency response. Like the Ri71, the Ri91 also boasts an acoustically inert MDF wood cabinet.
“Our new Reference Series Speakers reflect our dedication to fidelity, focusing on sonic balance, intricate detail, and clarity in sound reproduction,” stated Saied Swalee, Audio Engineer at Fluance. “This series caters to the refined preferences of true sound enthusiasts, delivering an unparalleled listening experience without compromise.”
The Fluance Ri71 bookshelf speakers retail for $400, while the Ri91 tower speakers cost $800. Both models are available in Black Ash, White Ash, and Walnut finishes, and are currently offered for purchase at Fluance.com.
