The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Katalin Vermes / Lionsgate
How many actors would actually portray fictionalized versions of themselves? Maybe fewer than ten? Certainly, no A-listers are willing to take that chance. Fortunately, Nicolas Cage is a true performer and open to anything. In Tom Gormican’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Cage plays “Nick Cage,” a frustrated actor whose life continues to spiral as he steps away from the limelight.
After missing out on a role, Nick accepts a $1 million offer to meet billionaire Javi Gutiérrez (Pedro Pascal), who is celebrating his birthday in Majorca. While in Spain, the CIA recruits Nick to investigate whether Javi is involved in the abduction of a politician’s daughter. It’s Nicolas Cage playing a fictionalized version of himself who takes on the role of CIA hero – do I need to elaborate further?

The Ice Road (2021)
Netflix
Liam Neeson deserves more recognition for revitalizing his career by transitioning into action B-movies. Who would have guessed that the star of Schindler’s List would eventually dismantle a trafficking operation in Taken? Neeson continues to pursue action thrillers after Taken. One of his less well-known films is The Ice Road, a Netflix Original released in 2021.
In this film, North Dakota trucker Mike McCann (Neeson) and his team of drivers are called for a rescue mission in Canada. An explosion in a Manitoba mine has killed eight and left 26 trapped underground. Mike and his team must transport emergency equipment to the mine within 30 hours, or the miners will perish. The fastest route to Manitoba involves crossing a frozen lake that could break at any moment. Along the way, sinister characters reveal their true intentions and attempt to sabotage the mission. They were unaware that Neeson is now a driver with a unique set of skills.

Unhinged (2020)

Did Russell Crowe gain weight for his performance in Unhinged, or did he wear prosthetics? This has sparked an internet debate for years, though he likely donned a suit to add the extra bulk. Regardless of the approach, the outcome was effective, as Crowe appeared as an intimidating figure fit for the WWE. He portrays Tom Cooper, a man driving a truck during rush hour.
When Rachel Flynn (Caren Pistorius) honks at him while his truck blocks traffic, Tom moves alongside her car to apologize. However, when he requests an apology in return and Rachel refuses, claiming she did nothing wrong, it becomes a grave mistake. Tom vows to teach Rachel a lesson and turn her life into chaos. Prepare yourself, as Psycho Crowe is ready to unleash mayhem.
