Despite its name, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) is not solely focused on mobile devices. The business aspects influence every part of the consumer technology sector, with many leading companies revealing new products for both European and global markets. The most recent iteration—MWC Barcelona 2025—marked a return to form with a greater number of mobile devices launched than in previous years; however, a standout non-mobile device for me was the Honor MagicBook Pro 14.
What sets it apart? Both internally and externally, it offers impressive features at an affordable price, all wrapped in one of the most distinctive color schemes I've encountered on a laptop. Here’s an overview of the key features, the color in question, and why it holds a unique position compared to the new Apple MacBook Air.
Customizable flagship specifications
The Honor MagicBook Pro 14 is priced at about $800, offering a considerable range of options for that amount. Buyers can choose between two processors—either the Intel Core Ultra 5 225H or Core Ultra 9 285H—and it comes equipped with 1TB of storage. Depending on the processor selected, it also offers 16, 24, or 32GB of RAM, weighing just under 3 pounds.
Additionally, there is a choice of display, featuring a 14.6-inch OLED that is available in both touchscreen and non-touchscreen variants. Regardless of the selection, the display provides excellent color accuracy covering the full DCI-P3 color spectrum, a refresh rate of 120Hz, and a peak brightness of 700 nits.
There are also two USB 3.2 Type-C ports and two USB-A ports. The former can handle data speeds up to 10 Gbit/s and support device charging, positioned on the left side next to the headphone jack and HDMI 2.1 port. On the opposite side, the two USB-C ports offer data speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s, in addition to a full-HD webcam, a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, two speakers, and three microphones.
Powering this device is a 92Wh battery, promising up to 12 hours of battery life, though it will likely fall short of the new MacBook Air’s impressive 18-hour endurance. While the Honor MagicBook Pro 14 may not be the thinnest or lightest laptop, it stands out as one of the most unique and visually appealing in one significant way.
The most distinctive laptop color
Most technology products often appear dull. Many smartphone manufacturers offer their devices in a limited selection of colors, and while some do provide vibrant options, laptops have generally not followed suit.
This week, Apple took a step towards more colorful aesthetics with the new MacBook Air, replacing the Space Gray option with a beautiful Sky Blue, albeit still a variation of a common color.
In contrast, Honor chose the MagicBook Pro 14 to introduce a stunning light green color option, one of the most eye-catching I’ve seen. Although green has appeared on laptops before, those typically featured much darker shades that almost appeared black—I've never seen a brand embrace such a light tone. Of course, light green may not appeal to everyone, so there’s also a glossy white variant that lacks the same uniqueness.
A need for more colorful laptops
I was taken aback when Apple replaced Space Gray with Sky Blue in its latest MacBook Air lineup. The company produces a variety of beautifully colored iMacs, designed to be eye-catching home pieces, but it has largely adhered to its traditional color palette for laptops.
Many have eagerly anticipated Apple expanding its iMac color palette to other products, but even in doing so, they have reverted to a limited color selection. While the new Sky Blue is indeed gorgeous, it doesn’t push the boundaries like incorporating the yellow, purple, or pink from the iMac range into the MacBook Air.
I hope to see Apple introduce more vibrant laptops in the future, but until that happens, the Honor MagicBook Pro 14 will continue to be one of the most distinct color options available for purchase. I also hope other companies will explore more colorful selections, as laptops tend to be quite uniform, and I would welcome a more diverse color palette.
