NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Friday, March 7.

Connections stands out as one of the premier puzzle games offered by the New York Times. In this game, your challenge is to categorize a selection of 16 words into four undisclosed groups by discovering how the words are related. The puzzle resets every night at midnight, with each new puzzle presenting a different level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.

Some days can be more challenging than others, much like other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you find yourself struggling with today’s puzzle, refer to our Connections tips and tricks guide for useful strategies, or look at the hints provided for today’s Connections puzzle below. If you're still having trouble, we will provide today’s answers at the end.

You can engage with Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available on iOS or Android.

In Connections, you will see a grid with 16 words, and your goal is to organize these words into four groups of four by pinpointing the connections between them. These groups can include categories like video game franchise titles, sequels of book series, shades of red, and names of chain restaurants, among others.

Often, there are words that could belong to multiple categories, but there is only one entirely correct answer. You have the option to shuffle the word grid and rearrange it to help identify potential connections.

The groups are color-coded, with the yellow group being the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.

Select four words and click Submit. If your choice is correct, the four words will be removed from the grid, and the linking theme will be revealed. If your guess is incorrect, it will count as a mistake. You have only four mistakes allowed before the game ends.

Who is responsible for editing the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles for The New York Times since 2020, oversees Connections on a daily basis. In an article discussing her process in June 2024, Liu shared, “A few months ago, a new assignment crossed my desk: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been greenlighted and was looking for an editor. Most of my puzzle experience has been in crosswords, and I was excited to try something new. I’ve enjoyed learning how editing puzzles operates once a game receives approval, and witnessing how our team fits into a larger ecosystem.”

On the one-year anniversary of Connections' launch earlier this year, Liu shared a TikTok featuring her favorite puzzles to date:
