Rebellion's forthcoming survival RPG, Atomfall, will have serious repercussions for players who act recklessly. In a discussion with Digital Trends, Rebellion revealed that players can eliminate every NPC they encounter. Atomfall, set in a fictional U.K. devastated by the Windscale fire, is a single-player nuclear RPG reminiscent of Fallout 4 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Given its harsh setting, death plays a significant role in the narrative — players can opt to be merciless killers if they wish. “You can kill absolutely everyone or none at all,” said Rebellion's Head of Design, Ben Fisher, in an interview during an Atomfall preview event in London. “It’s entirely your choice. Some characters can help you escape the quarantine zone if you do tasks for them. It’s up to you to determine whom to trust.”
I spent over an hour playing Atomfall at this preview event and confirmed that Fisher's statement was accurate. Even while engaging with an NPC who seemed crucial to the main storyline, such as the Captain of Atomfall's military faction, the option to 'takedown' appeared while I was in proximity. I used the option only once to kill a baker who was withholding information, only to later find out there was a non-violent solution to that part of the quest. Generally, NPCs respond strongly to the player's actions; some may ask you to step back before attacking, and if you heed their warning, they may not engage. Villagers will react angrily if you wave a gun and run through town. Atomfall is developing into a survival sandbox that responds to player choices, and Fisher emphasized the significance of that feeling of freedom. “There may be times when one character asks you to kill another, and by doing so, you limit your options,” said Fisher. “So yes, you can eliminate anyone. This is meant to provide you with a sense of freedom, and maybe things will spiral out of control without needing to resort to violence.” Atomfall is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 27 and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

3 new Xbox Game Pass titles to enjoy this weekend (January 24-26)
February is brimming with an overwhelming number of video games competing for your attention, including notable releases like Civilization 7, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Like a Dragon: Yakuza Pirate in Hawaii, among others. Before this influx of games arrives, Xbox Game Pass is rolling out a selection of titles to keep you entertained. Instead of bombarding you with lengthy experiences that you won't finish before February's releases, we've selected a variety of games that are manageable to complete before the month concludes. While these games aren’t particularly long, they each offer something unique and should not be overlooked. If you're looking for something to play this weekend, any of these options would be a great choice.

Xbox Game Pass is gaining two of January’s biggest titles
Both Sniper Elite: Resistance and Citizen Sleeper 2 are coming to Game Pass before the month ends, along with various other must-play games. While the service frequently sees games come and go, it rarely adds as many significant titles at once as it has this month. January features several day-one releases, alongside an array of updates and DLC that promise to revitalize your favorite games.
Sniper Elite: Resistance — January 30
Few titles can rival the Sniper Elite series in terms of gameplay, which mixes stealth and tactical combat. Sniper Elite: Resistance is more than just a sniping simulator; it requires careful consideration of your targets and strategizing the best way to take your shot without detection.
Citizen Sleeper 2 — January 31
The original Citizen Sleeper was an impressive RPG, and its sequel, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector, advances the story of an amnesiac android with a damaged body. Your task is to find a ship, gather a crew, and continue your journey—akin to a cyborg version of Firefly, which is incredibly thrilling.
Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders — January 21
Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders serves as a sequel to Lonely Mountains: Downhill, delivering a Trials-like experience where you conquer mountain trails on skis, racing against other players in online multiplayer or striving to achieve your best time. Lonely Mountain: Snow Riders is available on Game Pass starting today.
