AMD is preparing to unveil a couple of its top processors, namely the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. Leaks suggest their release is just around the corner, with a launch date set for March 12. Recently, we caught a glimpse of the expected pricing for the flagship model, the 9950X3D, which appears to come with a hefty price tag at launch.
The powerful gaming CPU was highlighted by leaker 9550pro on X (Twitter), who utilized a pricing plugin to reveal its cost. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D was listed at 5599 RMB (Chinese yuan), which is approximately $772 at the current exchange rate. In comparison, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D is rumored to retail for 4599 RMB, equating to about $634 — almost $140 less.

When comparing these prices to the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, the previous flagship, it's clear there is an increase. The 7950X3D debuted at $699 and has undergone multiple price reductions since, even dipping as low as $530. However, as production slowed, availability tightened, causing prices to rise, and it now sells for $734, just shy of the anticipated 9950X3D price. At this rate, it’s hard to justify purchasing it with a new version on the horizon.

Returning to the rumored $772 price for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, this figure is concerning — but there are a few factors to consider. Firstly, this leak originates from a Chinese retailer and might not be accurate. Even if it is, U.S. prices could differ. There was a brief mention of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D on Newegg in February, where it was listed at $699, the same launch price as the 7950X3D. Therefore, it may not be as dire as it seems.
AMD has yet to officially confirm the release date or pricing for the new Ryzen CPUs but has disclosed their specifications during the CES 2025 keynote.

It’s become increasingly clear that AMD needs to introduce its 3D V-Cache CPUs concurrently with each new generation. We have grown accustomed to AMD releasing its 3D V-Cache models soon after each new generation, but the overcrowded lineup is becoming overwhelming, rendering some of AMD's premier processors obsolete.

AMD's Zen 5 processors have just hit the market — released only a little over two months ago. Struggling to carve out their place among the top processors, they have seen regular discounts since their arrival, which certainly helps. Current deals have cut the price of the Ryzen 5 9600X by almost $50 compared to its MSRP.
The Ryzen 5 9600X is the most budget-friendly option in the new range. It launched with an MSRP of $280, which is $10 less than its predecessor. While this reduction was appreciated, the 9600X was still significantly pricier than the 7600X at launch, given that the Zen 4 chip received numerous price reductions since it became available. Currently, it retails at $225, but I’ve seen it available for an even lower price.
