NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Monday, March 3

Connections is regarded as one of the top puzzle games offered by the New York Times. The objective of the game is to organize a selection of 16 words into four undisclosed groups by determining the relationships among the words. Each night at midnight, the puzzle resets, presenting a new challenge with varying difficulty levels. Similar to Wordle, players can monitor their winning streak and compare their scores with friends.

Some puzzles can be more challenging than others, akin to other popular offerings from NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're finding today’s puzzle a bit difficult, take a look at our guide for tips and tricks or refer to the hints provided for today’s Connections puzzle below. And if you're still stuck, we’ll share today’s answers at the end.

      How to play Connections

Connections is a daily game where players identify common links among words. You need to choose four groups of four words while making no more than three mistakes. You can start playing now at https://t.co/YITfSnqODb pic.twitter.com/CqObVOqeUs

You can participate in Connections either on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available on iOS or Android.

In Connections, a grid of 16 words will be presented to you. Your task is to classify these words into four sets of four by recognizing the connections among them. These groups may represent themes such as video game series titles, sequels of book series, shades of red, or names of restaurant chains.

Some words may seem to fit into multiple categories, but there is only one completely correct arrangement. You can shuffle the word grid and rearrange it to better observe the possible connections.

Each group is color-coded, with yellow being the easiest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple.

Choose four words and click Submit. If your selection is correct, those four words will disappear from the grid and the theme connecting them will be unveiled. If you guess incorrectly, it will count as a mistake. You have only four incorrect guesses allowed before the game concludes.

Who is responsible for editing the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles for The New York Times since 2020, edits Connections each day.

“A few months ago, a new assignment came to me: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and required an editor,” Liu explained in an article about her process in June 2024. “Most of my puzzle experience has been in crosswords, so I was thrilled to explore something new. I’ve enjoyed understanding how puzzle editing unfolds once a game is approved and seeing how our team fits into the broader system.”

On the one-year anniversary of Connections earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok highlighting her favorite puzzles thus far:
