The Apple AirTag 2 might be released as early as May, based on a recent tip from leaker Kosutami. In a post on X, Kosutami (@Kosutami_Ito) indicated that the next-generation AirTags could be launched in “May or June,” but they did not cite a source for this information. This aligns with previous reports from last year where Mark Gurman mentioned that the AirTag 2 wouldn't debut until mid-2025. Since their launch in 2021, the popular item trackers have not received any updates, and many fans are eagerly awaiting a new model. There have been rumors about the follow-up device since 2022, but Apple has stated that the release of the AirTag 2 was postponed due to an oversupply of the original model.
Apple has not disclosed much about the AirTag 2. Most of the speculation has come from sources such as Mark Gurman, but we anticipate several upgrades will accompany the product's release. The AirTag 2 is expected to feature a sturdier design and improved speakers. This enhancement is particularly important; the AirTag emits a sound to assist users in finding misplaced items, but some individuals have misused the devices for stalking and harassment, often removing the speaker housing to make it less detectable.
Contrary to some rumors, the AirTag 2 is not anticipated to have a rechargeable battery. The new model will likely continue utilizing the same CR2032 batteries as the original version, which have become relatively easier to find in recent times. If rumors of a new UWB (ultra-wideband) chip are accurate, the second generation of AirTag trackers should be simpler to locate. This upgrade would enhance the Precision Finding feature, allowing for more accurate location tracking of the AirTag 2.
Kosutami is known for acquiring Apple prototypes but has a somewhat inconsistent history with leaks. While this prediction aligns with previous sources, it's wise to maintain a healthy skepticism until Apple provides an official announcement.

Chipolo's latest trackers function similarly to AirTags for Android, and they perform well. Google's enhanced tracking network, Find My Device, serves as the Android answer to Apple's Find My network. In a similar vein, Chipolo's new Point tracking devices aim to be the Android equivalent of Apple AirTags. The Chipolo One Point item tracker and the Chipolo CardPoint wallet finder are among the first third-party tracking solutions compatible with Find My Device. As a long-time user of Apple AirTags, I was curious to compare these trackers, and fortunately, Chipolo provided me with a few for this comparison. Ultimately, I did not encounter any surprises, which is a positive outcome.

Apple has just corrected an error regarding the new iPad Air. When Apple initially unveiled the M2 iPad Air during its “Let Loose” event, it claimed that the device had a 10-core GPU. This was incorrect, as the tablet actually has a 9-core GPU. Apple acknowledged that these specifications were mistakenly reported, while other performance claims related to the iPad Air remain accurate. Although it's unfortunate to misrepresent a specific specification to customers, leading them to preorder or purchase a device based on that claim, the difference on paper is not substantial, and there shouldn't be any noticeable impact on performance. In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple said, “We are updating Apple.com to correct the core count for the M2 iPad Air. All performance claims for the M2 iPad Air are accurate and based on a 9-core GPU.”
