NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Sunday, February 23

Connections is among the top puzzle games offered by the New York Times. The objective of the game is to group a collection of 16 words into four secret groups by determining how they are interconnected. The puzzle resets nightly at midnight, with each iteration presenting a varying level of difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare scores with friends.

Some days prove more challenging than others, akin to other popular NYT Games like The Mini and Strands. If you're facing difficulties with today's puzzle, our guide with tips and tricks for Connections might be helpful, or you can look for hints for today's puzzle below. If you still find yourself stuck, we’ll provide the answers at the end.

You can access Connections through the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app available on iOS or Android.

In Connections, you'll see a grid made up of 16 words, and your goal is to sort these words into four sets of four by recognizing their relationships. These sets may involve themes like titles of video game series, sequels to book series, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, among others.

Typically, some words may appear to fit multiple themes, but there is only one correct solution. You can shuffle the words around the grid to better visualize potential connections.

Each group is color-coded, with the yellow group being the simplest to identify, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.

Select four words and click Submit. If your selection is correct, the four words will disappear from the grid, and the theme connecting them will be revealed. An incorrect guess counts as a mistake, and you have a limit of four mistakes for the game.

Who is responsible for editing the NYT Connections game?

Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, is the daily editor for Connections.

“A few months ago, a new assignment came my way: Create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and was looking for an editor,” Liu explained in an article detailing her editing process in June 2024. "Most of my puzzle experience has been in crosswords, so I was thrilled to try something new. I’ve enjoyed understanding how puzzle editing functions once a game is greenlit and how our team fits into the broader picture."

On the one-year anniversary of Connections' launch earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok about her favorite puzzles to date:
