Player housing is set to be introduced in World of Warcraft this year. You'll soon have a place to unwind after a long day of gathering resources or searching for legendary items, and the home design system is user-friendly enough for anyone to navigate, even without previous 3D modeling experience.

Initially, there will be two housing areas: one for Alliance players and another for Horde players. The Alliance area will draw inspiration from the Elwynn Forest near Stormwind, while the Horde area will be themed around the autumnal Azshara. Although more options may be added later, Blizzard aims to keep these regions closely linked at the start to foster social interaction within the game.

The game will feature numerous customization options that can be unlocked through gameplay, received as rewards for completing quests, and more. However, it's expected that some items will only be accessible through real-world purchases.

Blizzard also humorously critiqued Final Fantasy XIV’s housing system, stating, “As a part of our focus on wide adoption, we wanted to ensure that Housing is available to everyone. If you want a house, you can have a house. No exorbitant requirements or high purchase costs, no lotteries, and no onerous upkeep (and if your subscription lapses, don’t worry, your house won’t be repossessed!)”

The strict requirements and high costs associated with obtaining a home in FF14 are well-known, and Blizzard wants to emphasize that its housing system will be much more accessible to players.

In addition to purchasing homes, players can opt to reside in Neighborhoods. Each Neighborhood consists of about 50 houses, and residents can earn community rewards. Public Neighborhoods are open to everyone, whereas private Neighborhoods can be limited to specific guilds or groups of friends.

Blizzard concludes its announcement by noting that significant work still needs to be done before the feature is complete, but it may launch by the end of 2025.
