Firefox has finally matched Brave and Opera by introducing a built-in ad blocker for iOS.

iPhone users of Firefox can now enjoy a feature that Android and desktop users have had for some time: an effective method to block ads without needing to find a separate extension. Mozilla has officially launched its Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS today after a period of testing.

How the new ad blocker operates on iOS

This new feature is based on Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker technology and utilizes the EasyList filter, which is a community-curated list that identifies known ad and tracker sources. This allows Firefox to eliminate most third-party ads and trackers before they load, reducing clutter and saving bandwidth in the process. This update is part of Mozilla’s ongoing effort to combat ad-based tracking.

However, it's important to understand what this feature can and cannot achieve. Ads served directly by a website will still appear, as well as ads within search results. Additionally, Firefox’s sponsored shortcuts on the new tab page will be treated separately, so don't expect them to vanish.

How to enable Firefox’s ad blocker on iOS?

      Mozilla

You must activate this feature manually, as Mozilla has kept it off by default. First, navigate to Settings, then Browsing, and select Ad Blocker to enable it, or you can toggle it quickly from the site menu while browsing.

This ad blocker works in conjunction with Firefox’s existing Enhanced Tracking Protection, providing iOS users with dual layers of privacy tools. It's worth noting that Firefox is somewhat late to this feature, as Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi already have built-in ad blocking in their iOS browsers.

Firefox 155 update: what else is new?

This rollout coincides with Firefox 155, which includes several other improvements as well. Mozilla’s AI-assisted browsing feature, Smart Window, is now being rolled out to more users in the U.S., Canada, and France, featuring quicker responses and enhanced tab organization.

      Mozilla

The Organize Tabs feature has also become smarter. It now recommends better groupings for related tabs and assigns clear descriptive names to each group. The update introduces a visible tracker count in the address bar, along with a range of smaller bug fixes for both desktop and mobile.

Physical ID cards may soon become obsolete. From driver's licenses to national IDs, more of our identity documents are transitioning to our phones, and Google aims to ensure that this change occurs securely. The company has announced an expansion of its hardware security program to make digital IDs on Android phones more reliable.

Poco F9 series features a Bose-tuned subwoofer, 5x zoom, and enormous batteries.

The F9 Ultra boasts a 200MP main camera and a 185Hz display, while the F9 Pro offers much of the same flagship hardware for a lower price.

Poco began by creating phones that provided flagship-level performance without the flagship prices. The new Poco F9 Ultra and F9 Pro demonstrate a significant shift in this approach, as both phones now firmly place themselves in the premium category. Poco has launched these two devices for global markets, including Europe, though neither will officially be available in the U.S., which is regrettable, as the F9 Ultra, in particular, includes hardware that is quite unique, even among high-end Android flagships.

I forgot phones could still amaze me until I used one with a subwoofer.

Forget the impressive specs — I want to discuss the POCO F9 Ultra’s subwoofer.

A few nights ago at a party, I was trying to recommend a song to someone. Typically, I would have to send it to them later or struggle to connect to a Bluetooth speaker. But with the POCO F9 Ultra in hand, I decided to do something I usually dislike, and played the song through its speakers. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it cut through the ambient noise.

Despite the less-than-ideal environment, the F9 Ultra remained impressive in volume and clarity, allowing the person next to me to hear the song clearly. That's when I realized I was more intrigued by this particular feature than any of its other flagship options. POCO has equipped the phone with dual symmetrical 1115D stereo speakers and an independent 1620 subwoofer (which once required separate attachments), creating what it refers to as a 2.1-channel audio system tuned by Bose. There are also Dynamic and Balanced sound profiles, with the former focusing on richer bass and the latter on clearer vocals and overall balance.
