      Beginning with the M5 Max, it features an 18-core CPU (6 super cores + 12 performance cores), accompanied by a GPU with up to 40 cores, each having a built-in Neural Accelerator. This offers considerable graphical power for demanding users. The memory can go up to 128GB, with bandwidth reaching 614GB/s, which Apple claims is sufficient to run large language models locally on the device.

      The M5 Ultra takes it even further, boasting a 36-core CPU and an 80-core GPU. Additionally, it can be equipped with up to 512GB of unified memory (1.2TB/s bandwidth), representing a 50% increase over the previous generation. Notably, the M5 Ultra is the first Ultra chip to include Neural Accelerators, resulting in claims of up to 4.3 times the AI computing power of the M3 Ultra.

On the software front, a new framework called Core AI has been introduced alongside MLX for building and running models directly on Apple silicon.

      Connectivity has also seen some enhancements. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, which were previously available on iPhones, are now incorporated into the Mac Studio for the first time, made possible by Apple’s N1 chip. Furthermore, storage speeds have doubled thanks to a PCIe Gen 6 SSD.
