Apple's camera AirPods might actually inform you when your hair is obstructing the view.

From hair notifications to secure pairing, here’s what else Apple is developing for AirPods Pro 4.

Today, we reported on AirPods Pro featuring a built-in camera, uncovered through a demo video embedded within the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate. Now, additional leaks from the same build are revealing two more aspects regarding the functionality of these AirPods.

What occurs if hair obstructs the camera?

Aaron from MacRumors shared recent findings in a post on X. If your hair covers the camera on your AirPods, you’ll receive an error labeled "Hair Detected." The message states, “To obtain the most precise information about your surroundings, ensure that AirPods are not obstructed.”

Some further details about the AirPods Pro 4 with cameras, discovered in macOS 26.7 RC: If long hair blocks the camera, an error labeled “Hair Detected” will pop up, stating “to get the most accurate information about things in your environment, make sure AirPods… https://t.co/hUbWovpsyc— Aaron (@aaronp613) August 18, 2026

While it’s a minor detail, it’s logical. Since the camera requires a clear line of sight to provide information to Visual Intelligence, anything obstructing it, including hair, would prevent the feature from functioning properly. Apple appears to have considered this to avoid user confusion when the camera fails to detect anything.

      What is Secure Pairing?

The second feature is called Secure Pairing. According to a string found in the build, it says, “Please put your AirPods in case to continue Secure Pairing.” While we don’t yet have a complete understanding of how this process will work, it indicates that setting up the camera feature will require an additional security step, likely to verify that you are indeed the owner before allowing access to your surroundings.

Given that these AirPods will be capturing and processing visual data from the environment, implementing a secure pairing process makes a lot of sense from a privacy perspective.

These two features provide more insight into how Apple is addressing both usability and security for its camera-equipped AirPods. With further information emerging from the same macOS Tahoe 26.7 build, it appears that Apple is nearing the official launch of this feature.
