Google Sheets can now transform your dull spreadsheets into mini-apps.

I spend enough time within spreadsheets to recognize how quickly they can spiral out of control. What begins as a tidy table can quickly evolve into hundreds of rows, endless columns, and a considerable amount of scrolling to locate the specific item you need. Google believes that Gemini can significantly improve that experience.
The company is launching Sheets canvas, a new feature powered by Gemini that can transform data from a Google Sheets spreadsheet into something resembling a custom mini-application. Instead of constructing charts by hand, formatting cells, or figuring out complex formulas, you can simply instruct Gemini on what you wish to create. For instance, you might ask it to convert a spreadsheet filled with assignments into a visual study tracker. Gemini will then leverage the data already in your sheet to create an interactive interface.
Your spreadsheet need not resemble a traditional spreadsheet
What’s intriguing about Sheets canvas is that it doesn’t just produce an attractive dashboard and end there. Google describes it as a read-and-write layer that operates over your existing spreadsheet, maintaining a connection between the two. If you make changes through your newly created canvas, the base spreadsheet reflects those updates. Alternatively, if you modify the original sheet, those adjustments will be visible on the canvas as well.
Are you overwhelmed by hundreds of rows and columns, wishing your spreadsheet was instead an interactive dashboard? 📊✨Introducing Sheets canvas in Google Sheets—transforming static data into interactive “mini-apps” with a straightforward prompt. You can continue to communicate with Gemini if the initial outcome doesn’t align with your vision. You could request a rearrangement of the layout, design adjustments, or the addition of features without needing to reconstruct everything manually. Plus, since the canvas operates as another tab within Google Sheets, sharing and collaborating on it is similar to how you would with the spreadsheet itself.
This could enhance the accessibility of Sheets
There are numerous scenarios where this could prove beneficial. A student might convert a chaotic list of assignments and due dates into a study dashboard that clearly highlights upcoming deadlines. Google even proposes utilizing Sheets canvas for wedding planning, wherein RSVP information can evolve into an interactive seating chart, allowing guests to be moved between tables while the original spreadsheet remains current.

This adaptability is what makes Sheets canvas particularly captivating. You’re still utilizing spreadsheets to organize and manage your information, but you don’t have to spend your entire day staring at cells to engage with it. Sheets canvas is being rolled out globally in English, available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, alongside qualifying Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers and Google AI Pro for Education add-on users. If you have access, you’ll discover the Create canvas option within the Ask Gemini side panel in Google Sheets. And if Gemini can truly simplify my sprawling spreadsheets into something easily understandable, I will gladly spend less time endlessly scrolling through columns.

This trend may not be brand-new or surprising.
There exists a community that seeks companionship or solace through virtual characters that serve as partners, friends, mentors, or whatever they may be looking for. The concept is somewhat controversial, yet it seems to be enduring. Joi AI, a company providing AI companions as a service, recently conducted an experiment to determine if erotic sessions led by an AI bot could be as fulfilling as traditional self-pleasure methods like pornography or fantasy.
