The Pixel 11 finally includes the video enhancements I’ve been anticipating, but not all Pixels receive these updates.
This year's enhancements are genuine: layered stabilization, AI editing, improved audio, though differences remain clear based on pricing.
For the last two generations, I've expressed concerns that the Pixel's video quality lags behind other brands. Google has finally acknowledged this.
The Pixel 11 series has arrived with its most significant video improvements in years. However, not all enhancements are available on every model in the range.
So, what stands out in terms of video upgrades?
First, let's talk about the increase in video resolution. The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL can now record in 8K at 24 or 30 frames per second. This feature is powered by Video Boost, a cloud-supported process that has been exclusive to Pro models since the Pixel 8 Pro.
The standard Pixel 11 does not include this upgrade; it still tops out at 4K and 1080p, both supporting up to 60fps across all rear cameras. Stabilization receives a similar upgrade called Pro Stable Video, which combines OIS, EIS, and Fused stabilization, delivering truly smooth 8K footage akin to that captured on a tripod.
However, all models now feature 20x Super Res Zoom Video, which can be useful for capturing performances or sporting events from a distance. In my view, this is a welcome addition, particularly since the base model has a telephoto lens as well.
On the software side, a new Creator Tab includes trimming, clip reordering, and automatic project albums within what Google labels the Creator Suite. There's also a built-in Teleprompter for creators looking to read a well-prepared script.
Magic Capture allows users to take a photo and video with one button press, then automatically crops and sharpens the image, while Live Translate now functions during video playback as well, not just during calls.
Audio improvements are notable. Features like Speech Enhancement and Audio Magic Eraser enhance dialogue clarity, while stereo recording, wind reduction, and Audio Zoom assist those filming outdoors.
All cameras support 10-bit HDR, with dual exposure available on the wide lens. Additionally, the Pixel 11 series has become significantly more adept at recording videos, vlogs, handheld documentaries, or capturing memories.
Over the past five years, Shikhar has steadily simplified advancements in consumer technology and presented them clearly.
I compared the Pixel 11 series to the Pixel 10, and here’s what you need to consider before making a purchase.
The Google Pixel 11 lineup has launched, and it appears to address several areas I hoped would improve from the Pixel 10 series. The Tensor G6 is set to provide a noticeable performance boost across all four models, while Google has enhanced the cameras throughout the lineup. There’s also faster charging, and the Pro models feature brighter and sturdier displays. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold has received essential design upgrades.
These are solid enhancements for Google's flagship series. However, whether they justify replacing a Pixel 10 purchased just a year ago is a different matter. Based on my experience with annual smartphone updates, here’s who should actually consider upgrading.
Before the Made by Google event even commenced, Google revealed comprehensive details about its new hardware lineup: four new Pixel 11 smartphones, the Pixel Watch 5, its inaugural tracker, refreshed Pixel Buds Pro 2, and a variety of new software features powered by Gemini.
The good news is that everything announced today is available for pre-order and will be in stores by August 20, 2026. Prices have also risen across the range. Without further delay, here’s a summary of what Google announced today.
One of the most notable features of the new Pixel 11 series is aimed at improving communication for deaf users interacting with those unaware of sign language. The device's camera-based sign-to-text feature translates sign language into text for more seamless in-person conversations.
