Formula E is making its way to Disney+, introducing electric racing to a larger audience.
The new global streaming agreement coincides with Formula E's transition into its next-generation GEN4 era.
Formula E is set to receive a significant streaming enhancement as Disney+ will serve as its global streaming platform beginning with the 2026-27 season. This partnership will bring the all-electric racing league to viewers in 144 territories and was announced this week, including coverage on ESPN and ESPN+ for US audiences.
Disney+ will feature live broadcasts of every Formula E race weekend
The most significant aspect of this agreement is its extensive scope. Subscribers to Disney+ in the designated regions will have access to live broadcasts of every Formula E race weekend, encompassing practice sessions, qualifying, and the races themselves. Additionally, the platform will provide on-demand replays and supplementary behind-the-scenes content, allowing Formula E to extend its presence beyond just the races.
The partnership will kick off with the 2026-27 season, starting in December. This season will comprise 21 rounds across 13 events, offering Disney+ a considerable amount of live motorsport content. Ongoing local broadcasting agreements will still be in place, meaning the Disney+ deal will not entirely replace traditional TV options in every market.
The timing seems fortuitous
As Formula E embarks on the GEN4 era, the timing of the Disney collaboration is particularly opportune for the championship.
The new GEN4 vehicles are engineered to be significantly faster, featuring up to 600kW of power and an estimated acceleration from 0-60mph in about 1.8 seconds. Formula E has stated that this new generation will mark a major technological leap for the series, alongside the introduction of new race formats, including shorter E-Prix Unleashed races at certain double-header events. This gives Disney a more compelling offering than just an ordinary sports broadcasting contract, securing rights just as Formula E enters what could be one of its most visually and technologically thrilling periods.
For Disney+, incorporating live sports is a strategic way to retain subscribers, and Formula E aligns perfectly with that plan. The electric racing series merges motorsport, technology, and sustainability, while Disney+ provides a familiar global reach across 144 territories. For Formula E, the advantage is evident: simplified access and the potential for a significantly larger audience, eliminating the need for fans to seek out various broadcasters in different regions.

Sonos is getting ready to launch its next wireless headphones, the Sonos Ace Ultra, and seems poised to make a more serious investment in AI capabilities. The headphones appeared in an FCC filing, initially reported by Lowpass, which contained many redacted sections. However, the documents confirm the Ace Ultra name and suggest that the headphones may be available in as many as five colors, a shift from the original Ace, which was released in 2024 in only black and white.
Spotify is introducing a new "AI Persona" badge to identify artist profiles based on AI-generated identities, which will start appearing in mid-September. I’ve often found myself scrolling past artist images on Spotify, mistakenly assuming there was a real person behind them—only to discover later that I was incorrect. This trend has been frequent, but that uncertainty is about to end. The new badge will highlight profiles generated around AI, including aspects like the name, image, and biography, and will be implemented across the app beginning mid-September.
Samsung is enhancing its Galaxy Buds by introducing a Hearing Aid feature, which has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration. This feature allows compatible Galaxy Buds to function as over-the-counter hearing aids for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss. Targeted at users aged 18 and older, this feature does not need a prescription or a visit to a clinic. Samsung states that it can assist individuals who have difficulty following conversations in noisy settings, providing basic hearing support directly through a device they may already own.
