The Minimal Phone 2 features an AMOLED display and 5G connectivity while maintaining its classic appeal.
A smaller sequel made of aluminum, featuring a complete OLED display, 5G capabilities, and an improved keyboard.
Minimal Phone 2
The initial Minimal Phone was defined by an E Ink screen that made scrolling intentionally difficult. The black-and-white E Ink display was designed to make watching videos or browsing social media posts less visually appealing.
Therefore, when The Minimal Company revealed its successor with an AMOLED screen that supports a higher refresh rate, I was somewhat taken aback. I hadn't anticipated the company would change the hardware choice that made the original distinctive. Still, this doesn't mean the Minimal Phone 2 isn't worth considering.
Why abandon the display that characterized the brand?
The Minimal Phone 2 replaces its e-reader-style E Ink panel with a 3.92-inch 90Hz AMOLED display. While E Ink screens are slow, unresponsive with animations, and generally unsuitable for anything beyond text, the AMOLED display provides a contemporary look and appeal.
Isn't it ironic: a Minimal Phone featuring an AMOLED display? Regardless, the rest of the redesign feels quite necessary, at least in my opinion. The previous blocky, sharp-edged shell has been replaced with a sleek, curved aluminum body.
It is available in Black or Silver. The physical QWERTY keyboard remains as well, featuring a tactile layout that incorporates metal dome switches, remappable keys, and long-press shortcuts. For use in low-light conditions, the keys are also backlit.
Does 5G change the equation?
Customers will also receive a physical silent switch on the top, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, enhancing the overall nostalgic feel of the phone, reminiscent of classic BlackBerrys.
In contrast to the original Minimal Phone, the new version includes 5G support, indicating that the company has integrated a new chipset. Although it's not yet confirmed, a source suggests it might feature the Dimensity 8300, along with 8GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage capacity.
Kickstarter
While the company announced that further information regarding the phone will be shared on August 10, 2026, the Kickstarter page indicates that the crowdfunding campaign will remain active for another 29 days. The project has already met its funding goal, suggesting that the brand is likely to proceed with a commercial release.

You can now download an alternative app store directly from Google Play.
For more than ten years, locating a competing Android app store meant searching for APK files and navigating security warnings. However, that has changed. Aptoide Games, a gaming-centric marketplace, is now downloadable directly through Google Play in the United States. This marks the first instance of a rival app store officially appearing within Google's platform since it effectively barred competitors over a decade ago.
