New Viture Pro 2 XR glasses are lighter, thinner, and more comfortable to wear.

Smart glasses have a promising appeal on paper. They provide a large virtual screen that you can carry in your bag, offering a big-screen experience without the bulk. However, the trade-off often involves wearing a heavy piece of technology on your face throughout the movie. Viture is addressing this challenge with their next-generation smart glasses.

The Viture Pro 2 is the lightest display glasses from the brand so far, weighing only 63 grams and priced at $299. Its frame is 16% thinner and 20% lighter than the first version of the Viture Pro, with several design enhancements aimed at improving comfort for longer use.

The screens are brighter and more eye-friendly.

The Pro 2 features what Viture refers to as UltraClarity 3.0. The micro-OLED displays made by Sony can achieve a brightness of 1,600 nits, and a redesigned field-curvature aims to create a more naturally appearing virtual screen while minimizing eye strain. Additionally, gamma tuning works to deliver more accurate colors.

It includes individual diopter controls that range from 0 to minus 5.00D for each eye. According to Viture, some users with nearsightedness may not need separate prescription inserts, though this adjustment won’t accommodate all prescriptions or vision conditions.

The field of view has increased from 46 to 50 degrees. The resolution remains at 1920 x 1080 per eye, with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Thus, while the Pro 2 shows a relatively modest upgrade to the display, the main emphasis is on enhanced comfort and fit.

There is still a cable attached to your glasses.

These are display glasses rather than standalone AI eyewear. Their optical system results in a bulkier frame compared to waveguide-based options and requires a wired USB-C connection. Viture is also launching the Mobile Dock Mini for $99, which weighs approximately 250 grams, 34% smaller and 30% lighter than the previous dock, and includes a 10,000mAh battery.

The dock supports the Nintendo Switch 2 and has a detachable magnetic adapter that can function as a standalone hub for connecting the console to a TV or monitor. The Viture Pro 2 and Mobile Dock Mini are currently available for $299 and $99, respectively. Purchasing both through Viture’s fifth-anniversary bundle reduces the combined cost to $378. This model is also part of the brand's Beast XR glasses lineup, which features an even larger display over the eye.

Meta’s smart glasses are being treated like hidden cameras in pubs and restaurants, and I completely agree.

The ‘glasshole’ era has reemerged, and Meta’s smart glasses are facing bans.

Meta's smart glasses have surged in popularity recently. Despite prior negative perceptions of wearable face tech, the Meta Ray-Ban glasses have made significant improvements while also being stylish. Unfortunately, the social concerns remain prevalent.

In response, various establishments across the UK, including restaurants, pubs, private clubs, and theaters, are imposing restrictions on Meta’s camera-enabled glasses, fearing that patrons and staff might be recorded without their knowledge. This mirrors the backlash and bans sparked by Google Glass over a decade ago.

A less expensive Galaxy Watch with over a week of battery life may be in development.

Samsung might be working on an RTOS smartwatch with reduced hardware costs.

Recently, Samsung showcased its newest premium smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 series and the flagship Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, both with relatively high price points. However, the company may be preparing to launch a more budget-friendly alternative.

Code references found in the Galaxy Wearable app hint at a new smartwatch codenamed Galaxy Aero. Notably, the code refers to it as “galaxy_rtos_watch,” indicating that it could operate on a real-time operating system instead of Google’s Wear OS.

The Pixel Tag may be Google's response to AirTag, matching its price point.

Google's anticipated tracker could be released for €34.90 on August 12, closely aligning with Apple’s €35 AirTag price in France.

Google appears to be on the brink of introducing its version of the AirTag, and it seems that it won’t rely on a lower price to attract Android users.

The Pixel Tag is reportedly set to be priced at €34.90 in Europe, while Apple charges €35 for a single AirTag in France, giving Google only a 10-cent price advantage. The tracker announcement is expected during Google’s hardware event on August 12.
