Google is experimenting with a redesigned voice search interface featuring a toolbar that enables quick switching between conventional search, AI Mode, Search Live, and Song Search.
**One mic button, four features**
At present, the mic button on Google’s homescreen search widget has a single function: it allows users to conduct a Google search using their voice. As reported by 9to5Google, Google is experimenting with a new layout in the latest beta version of the Google app that incorporates a swipeable toolbar within the voice search interface, making it simple to toggle between Regular Search, AI Mode, Search Live, and Song Search.

This updated design is similar to the switcher found in Google Lens for Search, Translate, Live, and Create, and it is said to remember the last mode used, defaulting to that when the mic button is pressed again. Additionally, Google is testing a new four-bar waveform with live transcription for the Regular Search interface. In the AI Mode tab, there is an arrow button to finalize your query and a stop button that redirects you to a Search box with a transcript for further edits.
**Not widely available yet**
As previously noted, this redesigned interface is currently confined to the latest Google app beta release and isn't accessible to all users within the beta lineup either. Google has not specified when, or if, it will be available to all users.
Once it is released, the toolbar will not only simplify the process for existing users to navigate Google’s AI search tools but will also enhance visibility for more users. If the redesign successfully passes testing, tapping the mic button on your home screen could become the quickest route to accessing everything Google’s AI search offerings provide.
