      Google is merging Gemini Spark with Chrome to enhance its ability to carry out web-based tasks without constant user intervention. The tech giant is also broadening access to AI Pro subscribers in over 160 additional countries, although the new browser functionalities are currently only available in the United States.

      How Chrome auto browse functions

      With Chrome auto browse, Spark can navigate websites using the accounts already logged in and passwords stored in the browser. User permission is required for access, rather than being activated automatically.

      Google claims that Spark can utilize this feature to arrange viewings for saved apartment listings, evaluate flight options, and initiate the booking process. It can move between pages and carry out several steps independently, without needing user direction for every action.

Google has also implemented safeguards against prompt injection, where hidden instructions on a webpage try to manipulate an AI agent into executing unintended actions. The Chrome auto-browse feature is launching first in the US, with other regions likely to follow later.

      Spark is reaching a significantly larger user base

      Gemini Spark was introduced at Google I/O in May as a cloud-based agent that continues to function even when a laptop is closed or a phone is locked. Initially, it concentrated on Google services such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar, Keep, and Tasks, before incorporating various third-party integrations.

      Spark also made its debut on the Mac in June, gaining functionality to organize local files and operate across supported desktop applications. Google has recently broadened access beyond its premium Ultra subscription, making Spark available to the $20-per-month Google AI Pro plan in the US.

      Pro subscribers in more than 160 additional countries are now receiving access. The Chrome integration is one of the most significant enhancements of Spark to date, as it eliminates one of the agent’s major limitations by allowing tasks to proceed beyond connected applications instead of halting when the next step requires navigating a website.
