The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 allow you to get rid of your laptop's low-quality webcam.
Samsung's latest foldable devices adopt the USB webcam feature from the Galaxy S26, and their hinge design allows for better utilization of this capability.
Samsung’s newest foldables can function as a USB webcam for laptops. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 all incorporate the USB webcam feature, which originally launched on Pixel phones in 2023 and was later included with the Galaxy S26 series earlier this year.
How the webcam mode operates
Android Authority has verified that the USB webcam option is accessible on all three new Galaxy Z series models, marking them as the first Samsung foldables to feature this functionality. As with the Galaxy S26 series, users can find the option in the USB settings menu by tapping the notification that appears when the device is connected to a PC.
By selecting the Webcam option under the “Use USB for” section, the camera feed from the phone is directly streamed to the video calling application running on the connected computer. No additional applications or drivers are necessary on either side.
The advantage of the hinge
To use the webcam mode on a Galaxy S26, users need to stabilize the device on a stand or lean it against something to position the camera correctly. Samsung’s new foldables simplify this process since they can be folded at a halfway angle, allowing the hinge to hold the phone upright and directed toward the user without the need for a stand or case.
This integrated stand feature eliminates a workaround needed by Galaxy S26 users, who would otherwise have to purchase a separate phone mount or use improvised solutions around the house. Though it may seem like a minor change, it significantly enhances the practical use of the feature on a foldable compared to a standard flat phone.
Setting convenience aside, the webcam mode provides a noticeable improvement in quality over built-in webcams. The primary camera on all three models significantly outperforms most laptop webcams available today, so users will experience a significant upgrade in video call quality as soon as they switch. If this sounds appealing to you, you can preorder the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, or Flip 8 now or purchase them when they officially launch on August 7.

Google’s most expensive Pixel 11 may feature a smaller battery and a higher price tag.
The upcoming Pixel 11 Pro may lead buyers to accept two changes that typically do not pair well: smaller batteries and increased starting prices. According to reliable source Roland Quandt, the Pixel 11 Pro will have a 4,850mAh battery, while the larger Pixel 11 Pro XL will come with a 5,115mAh battery. The same leak lists their UK prices as £1,079 and £1,279, respectively, for the 256GB storage variants. Google has yet to confirm these details, with the Pixel 11 launch expected on August 12.

Apple’s updated Upgrade plan won’t impose penalties for missed payments, but three defaults could terminate your lease.
Restricted Mode continues to be present in the iOS 27 beta, but Apple indicates it will not be activated for Upgrade payment defaults.
Apple recently unveiled its new Apple Upgrade leasing plan, which allows customers to make monthly payments for an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch via Klarna. This program replaces the longstanding iPhone Upgrade Program and broadens the options to include devices other than just phones for the first time.
However, code discovered by 9to5Mac in an iOS 27 beta raised alarms about potential consequences for those who fall behind on payments. The new App Managed Features system appears to have the capacity to monitor a customer’s payment status and place a financed device into Restricted Mode.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series has just introduced a feature that every Android foldable should incorporate.
No more struggling with manual rotation lock; Samsung's foldables have become smarter.
Samsung's foldables keep adding these subtle enhancements to user experience, and this particular one might be the standout. Reddit user ultima40 revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra now separately remember the rotation lock settings for each screen.
So, if you frequently fold and unfold your phone during the day, alternating between the cover screen and the tablet-like inner display, your device will remember your preferred orientation for each screen.
