      I have observed Google taking the spotlight at Samsung Unpacked events and presenting its significant software announcements for years, and today’s series of Gemini updates felt no different.

      Alongside Samsung's hardware launches, Google announced several Gemini upgrades arriving on the new Galaxy lineup (before its own Pixel devices), with one of these updates potentially being more relevant for switchers than anything revealed by Samsung.

      So, what's actually new?

      Gemini Intelligence’s task automation, which was launched in beta earlier this year, now supports more than 40 applications on the latest Galaxy Z foldables, including the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra.

      In essence, you can let it manage tasks like ordering food or purchasing event tickets on your behalf, saving you valuable time for other activities. Gemini can also interpret what is displayed on your screen and use visuals as prompts, in addition to text.

      Additionally, Gemini Notebook, known as NotebookLM, is preinstalled on these foldables to assist with research management and project organization. Buyers of the Fold 8 and Flip 8 receive a complimentary six-month trial of Google AI Pro.

      What about wearables and the process of switching from iPhone?

      Galaxy Watch 9 owners can activate Gemini by simply raising their wrist, with no wake word necessary. Google has also announced that Gemini will be incorporated into Samsung’s intelligent eyewear this fall, featuring two new designs revealed at today’s event.

      Perhaps most beneficial for those considering a switch from iPhone to Android, Android 17 now includes an integrated data transfer tool that facilitates the wireless or cable transfer of up to 20 data types without needing to install any third-party applications.

      This indicates that Google views Samsung’s foldable audience as a significant opportunity for converting iPhone users, rather than merely as a showcase partner. While Samsung’s hardware may headline today’s event, Google quietly provided reasons for why a switch to it would be worthwhile.
