Xpeng launched its flying car in Germany, receiving 7,000 orders, and operates a factory capable of producing 10,000 units annually.
Xpeng unveiled the Land Aircraft Carrier in Munich: a six-wheeled electric vehicle (EV) featuring a detachable flying module, with 7,000 orders already placed. The factory is set to produce 10,000 units per year.
At a launch event in Munich on Wednesday, Xpeng showcased its Land Aircraft Carrier for the first time outside Asia. This vehicle, a six-wheeled ground unit called the Mothership, comes with a detachable two-seat eVTOL flight module that can be stored in the rear. The six-rotor flying module is built with a carbon fiber structure to reduce weight and can transport two individuals through the air once it is deployed from the ground vehicle.
The company announced that it has received over 7,000 pre-orders, positioning it as the top flying car manufacturer globally in terms of pre-orders. Xpeng has established a factory with an anticipated annual output of 10,000 units. Mass production is expected to begin this year, with initial deliveries focusing on the Chinese market. However, a production model certified for European roads and airspace is not yet available. Additionally, Xpeng introduced the L03 in Munich, its most economical EV, which can charge to 80% in just 20 minutes and is the first Chinese vehicle outfitted with proprietary AI driving chips.
The launch in Munich highlights the Land Aircraft Carrier as part of Xpeng’s broader expansion into Europe, although achieving regulatory approval for flying it in Germany will take several years. Chinese automakers are now entering Western markets with a diverse array of products, ranging from affordable EVs to robotaxis and, more recently, flying vehicles. In Munich, the significance of the Land Aircraft Carrier lies less in its market viability and more in what it represents: Chinese manufacturers are evolving beyond mere price competition to showcasing their ambitions.
