OpenAI updates ChatGPT desktop following user complaints regarding its recent redesign.
The ChatGPT desktop app is undergoing significant improvements. Following the merger of Chat, Work, and Codex into a single app about a week ago, users encountered several unexpected issues, such as difficulty accessing chat history and inconsistencies when switching modes. OpenAI has now introduced a series of updates informed by user feedback to ensure a uniform experience across devices.
"Good evening! We've received a lot of constructive feedback on the new ChatGPT desktop app (which we didn’t implement perfectly on our first attempt), and we've made some adjustments. What updates are being made to the ChatGPT desktop app?
One of the major improvements is the reintroduction of conversation history and Projects in the desktop sidebar. Instead of navigating through different screens, users can now quickly return to previous discussions or ongoing tasks from one single location.
OpenAI has also implemented synchronization of Chat and Work history across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, ensuring conversations are consistently updated regardless of the device used. However, Local Tasks will still be stored only on individual computers and will not sync across devices.
Additionally, the desktop app includes a specific switch for toggling between Chat and Work modes. The layout now aligns with that of the web and mobile apps, simplifying the transition between personal chats and work tasks without the need to relearn the interface.
Just yesterday, OpenAI announced a significant upgrade for the search feature, enabling users to locate older chats, projects, documents, and images all in one place, along with a number of features aimed at teen safety and parental control options.
Why is this update important?
OpenAI indicates that these modifications are a direct consequence of user input following the initial redesign of the ChatGPT desktop app, which did not meet expectations. The company affirmed that Codex mode remains unchanged and pledged to continue making regular enhancements based on user feedback.
These updates are available now across all ChatGPT plans, including free accounts, and can be accessed by updating the desktop app. For the time being, ChatGPT’s desktop interface is much closer to what users anticipated from the beginning.

They encompass everything from budget-friendly beginner models to high-end keyboards and gaming-focused options. More importantly, these are products I would genuinely endorse for the Back-to-School season.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads will serve to highlight gaming capabilities on Nvidia’s new RTX Spark platform.
Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform has secured one of its first significant games. Sega has confirmed that when Virtua Fighter Crossroads launches in 2027, it will be compatible with RTX Spark-powered laptops and compact desktop PCs. More Sega titles are also expected to join the platform, though neither company has disclosed their names yet. This announcement also commemorates over 30 years of collaboration between Nvidia and Sega, starting with Nvidia’s NV1 graphics chip, which enabled the original Virtua Fighter to run on PC. Sega later played a crucial role in sustaining the fledgling chipmaker by converting a $5 million payment into an investment when Nvidia was on the verge of financial collapse.
