Google has just hinted at a Pixel 11 feature that we've been anticipating for several months.

Pixel Glow is seen next to the cameras in Google’s initial video for the Pixel 11.

Google confirmed last week that its 2026 Made by Google event will occur on August 12. The announcements are expected to be led by the Pixel 11 series, in addition to the fifth-generation Pixel Watch. Google has now unveiled its first video teaser ahead of the event, hinting at both the Pixel 11 Pro and the anticipated Pixel Glow feature.

      What does the teaser show?

The most captivating element of the teaser is a multicolored glow emanating from the area beside the rear cameras. The circular light cycles through various colors, potentially providing the first official look at Pixel Glow.

As reported initially by 9to5Google, the device featured in the video appears to be a gold Pixel 11 Pro. Its design is reminiscent of earlier models, retaining the wide camera bar carried over from previous generations.

Google seemingly has not included a separate light strip or any additional visible hardware on the back. Instead, the glow appears to originate from the existing flash area, indicating that Pixel Glow might utilize the camera flash module to produce the effect. Google has not yet clarified the associated hardware.

The company has also confirmed the Pixel 11 name via a landing page on the Google Store. The Made by Google invitation also references Gemini Intelligence, suggesting that Google will unveil some of the advanced AI features introduced at this year's Google I/O event on the Pixel 11 series. Preorders are anticipated to start on August 12.

Pixel Glow was first mentioned in Android 17.

We initially learned about Pixel Glow in April when "orbit" and "light_animations" references surfaced in Android Canary and Android 17 Beta builds. Google subsequently designated the feature as Pixel Glow in Android 17 Beta 4. According to the description found in Settings, Pixel Glow utilizes subtle lighting on the back of the device to notify users of important activities while the phone is lying face down. Two preliminary applications were identified: the light can respond when a favorite contact calls and provide visual feedback during hands-free Gemini conversations.

The settings page also indicated that Pixel Glow would not function alongside flash notifications. The teaser now hints at a possible reason for this limitation, as both features might share the same lighting component near the camera. Google has not yet clarified whether Pixel Glow will support standard app notifications or other functionalities. We should learn more when the Pixel 11 series is officially revealed on August 12.

Galaxy Z Fold 8: What we know about Samsung’s wider and shorter foldable.

Samsung's largest Fold yet could finally make book-style foldables feel more natural.

Throughout much of its existence, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold has tackled one issue while introducing another. The book-style foldable has allowed users to carry a tablet-sized display in their pocket without the need for an actual tablet. However, this came with the drawback of a cover screen that was too tall and narrow, making one-handed use awkward and uncomfortable. Additionally, content viewing on the inner screen was marred by large black bars at the top and bottom. Samsung aims to rectify this with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which might feature an entirely new design. Imagine it being shorter, wider, and passport-shaped, along with a cover screen that can be typed on comfortably without straining your fingers.
