Xiaomi surpasses Samsung to be the first non-Pixel smartphone to run stable Android 17.

Xiaomi surpasses Samsung to be the first non-Pixel smartphone to run stable Android 17.

The rollout of stable Android 17 has begun with Xiaomi's latest flagship, putting it ahead of Samsung and other competitors.

Android 17 was released for Pixel phones last month, and if you were expecting your non-Pixel Android device to receive the update soon, you may have to wait. Samsung is still in the public beta phase of One UI 9, and most other brands have yet to announce their timelines for updating to Android 17.

It's definitely surprising that Xiaomi has managed to jump ahead in this regard. The company has started to roll out HyperOS 3 updates based on stable Android 17, currently limited to the Xiaomi 17 series.

Which Xiaomi devices are receiving the update first?

The update is being made available only to the standard Xiaomi 17 and the camera-centric Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Unfortunately, if you own the Pro or Pro Max versions, you will have to wait. According to Android Authority, the update has build numbers beginning with 3.0.332 and involves a significant download of around 10GB for the Ultra variant and 8GB for the standard 17.

Xiaomi's previous generation Xiaomi 15T Pro is also getting a taste of Android 17 via the Mi Pilot testing program, but only a small group of testers will have access to it. The rollout is currently confined to Europe-specific and global variants of these devices.

Does this update bring any new features?

The changelog makes little mention of Android 17 itself. Instead, it highlights the June 2026 security patch along with routine stability improvements and bug fixes. You will only know you are on Android 17 after checking the About Phone section following the installation.

Since HyperOS operates many of its features independently from the Android version, do not expect to see additions typically associated with Android 17, such as app bubbles, screen recording reactions, or separate volume sliders for Gemini.

Thus, while Xiaomi can assert itself as the first non-Pixel manufacturer to deliver stable Android 17, this update feels more like a standard security patch with a new label.

If you've been monitoring OnePlus' exit rumors, this news may come as no surprise.

Reports about OnePlus reducing its presence in the US and Europe have emerged multiple times over the last few months, only for the company to deny them each time. Now, Bloomberg reports that OnePlus will actually begin to cease operations in the US and Europe as soon as this week, and this time it appears to be genuine. This decision is part of a broader restructuring at parent company Oppo, with plans for OnePlus to eventually withdraw from the rest of the world, including India, by 2027, though it will maintain operations in China for the time being.
