Anthropic is offering Claude Fable 5 for free for a limited period.

      Anthropic is simplifying the process for paying subscribers to try its latest AI model without incurring additional costs. The company has rolled out a temporary promotion that grants users on eligible paid plans access to Claude Fable 5 free of charge until July 19, 2026. However, there is a limitation: the model has a usage cap, and once that is reached, users will need to either pay for further access or switch to a different Claude model.

      This promotion comes as the competition in the AI assistant sector becomes more fierce. OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic are all vying to attract users to their premier models, frequently employing free trials or promotional offers to boost user adoption. Instead of providing unlimited access, Anthropic hopes that allowing subscribers ample time to explore Fable 5’s features will persuade many to continue utilizing it after the promotional period concludes.

      Access to Claude Fable 5 is free for now

      As per Anthropic, subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and premium seat-based Enterprise plans can utilize Claude Fable 5 without any extra charges during this promotional period. Rather than instituting a separate usage allowance, Fable 5 will count against the subscriber’s existing weekly usage quota. Users can utilize up to 50% of their weekly plan limit on the new model before facing additional restrictions.

      No activation or redemption is necessary. For those on an eligible subscription, Fable 5 will automatically appear in the model selection across supported Claude applications, including Claude Web, Desktop, Mobile, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Claude Design, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude for Teams, and several enterprise-oriented tools.

      Anthropic has also prolonged the 50% increase in Claude Code's weekly usage limits until July 19, in line with the duration of the Fable 5 promotion. Nonetheless, Fable 5 is not accessible everywhere; free-tier users do not get promotional access, while usage-based Enterprise customers, standard Enterprise seats, and API users are excluded from the offer. Access to Fable 5 via API continues to incur separate charges at standard rates.

      This promotion provides an early glimpse into how Anthropic might position its premium AI models in the future. Once users have utilized 50% of their weekly quota on Fable 5, they have two options: they can either continue using the model by purchasing usage credits, which are billed separately from their subscription, or revert to another Claude model while still operating within their remaining weekly limit.

      It’s essential to note that using other Claude models still counts against the same weekly limit. Therefore, a user who has already depleted much of their allowance elsewhere may not receive the full 50% allocation for Fable 5. For Enterprise customers, the applicable rules differ based on seat type. Premium seats automatically obtain promotional access, while standard seats need administrators to enable usage credits before Fable 5 becomes available.

      The promotion will officially conclude at 11:59:59 PM PT on July 19, 2026. After that date, Claude Fable 5 will no longer be included in subscribers' weekly plan limits. Those who wish to continue using the model must purchase access through Anthropic’s usage credit system.
