Dell's latest Alienware monitors offer increased brightness, enhanced sharpness, and are more affordable than anticipated for an OLED upgrade.
OLED has been one of the most significant advancements in gaming monitors in recent years, but the cost has always been a concern. High-end OLED gaming monitors have primarily catered to enthusiasts, particularly for those seeking panels larger than 30 inches. Dell's Alienware is now making this transition slightly more attainable with its new 34-inch ultrawide QD-OLED gaming monitor, the AW3426DW.
Initially unveiled at CES 2026, this monitor is now part of Alienware's 30th-anniversary collection, which also includes two more budget-friendly VA models. Priced at $799.99, the AW3426DW is still pricey, but it is more affordable than anticipated for a 34-inch ultrawide with a 5-stack Penta Tandem QD-OLED panel.
So, what features does this $800 monitor provide?
The AW3426DW is equipped with a 34-inch 3440 x 1440 ultrawide QD-OLED panel that has a 21:9 aspect ratio and an 1800R curve. Its 5-stack QD-OLED Penta Tandem setup can achieve a peak HDR brightness of 1,300 nits, an increase from the 1,000 nits offered by the previous generation.
Additionally, there is a new anti-reflective coating that lowers reflectance by 30 percent, enhancing the depth of blacks in brighter environments. For everyday use, a notable enhancement is the RGB stripe subpixel layout. QD-OLED monitors have typically faced challenges with text clarity, but Alienware claims this new layout provides the clearest text yet on a QD-OLED display.
The gaming specifications are also impressive. The monitor features a 280Hz refresh rate, an upgrade from 240Hz, and a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time. It supports VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500, Dolby Vision, Nvidia G-Sync Compatible, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and VESA AdaptiveSync. Additionally, Dell includes a three-year warranty that protects against OLED burn-in.
What about the more affordable options?
Alongside the OLED variant, Alienware has introduced two additional VA monitors. The AW3426DWM is a 34-inch 3440 x 1440 ultrawide monitor with a 1500R curve, a 240Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time, and is priced at $399.99.
The AW3226DM is the most economical option at $299.99. It features a 32-inch 2560 x 1440 curved VA panel, also operating at 240Hz with a 1ms response time. Both VA models support AMD FreeSync Premium, VESA AdaptiveSync, Dolby Vision, VESA DisplayHDR 400, and TÜV-certified low blue light hardware.
Undoubtedly, the OLED model is the standout in this lineup, and for good reason. However, the two VA models remain appealing for those desiring a large 1440p gaming monitor without a hefty expenditure, especially since they both offer 240Hz refresh rates. That said, alternatives for entering the OLED market at a lower price exist. Buyers not in need of a 34-inch curved ultrawide can opt for a 27-inch 1440p QD-OLED monitor from AOC, which can sometimes be found for about $350. While it lacks the larger ultrawide format, it still provides the essential OLED advantages at a significantly reduced cost.
