ASUS' ROG GR70 is a compact powerhouse featuring Ryzen technology
When you envision a gaming PC, you probably think of a large tower filled with RGB lights. However, ASUS is delivering high-end performance without occupying too much desk space. The newly released ROG GR70 is a gaming mini PC that packs potent AMD and Nvidia components into a chassis that measures less than three liters.
The ROG GR70 was initially announced a couple of months back and made its appearance at CES 2026. It is now available for purchase in the US. It joins the recently showcased ROG NUC 16 that features a leading Intel processor and carries a similarly hefty price tag.
High-performance hardware in a compact package
Currently, two configurations are available. The pricier option includes an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB SSD, priced at approximately $3,196.33. The slightly less expensive configuration, at $3,135.19, replaces the X3D chip with the standard Ryzen 9 9955HX but keeps the RTX 5070, 32GB of memory, and 2TB storage.
ASUS also lists options with Ryzen 9 8940HX and RTX 5060 for the GR70, although these configurations do not seem to be part of the initial availability in the US. The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 processor that utilizes AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache technology. Additionally, the RTX 5070 Laptop GPU supports various Nvidia Blackwell features, including DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation. However, given the price exceeding $3,000, the laptop GPU might be seen as slightly underwhelming.
Despite rising RAM prices due to shortages, ASUS allows users to expand the memory up to 96GB using two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, and the chassis accommodates two M.2 SSDs.

Its compact size comes at a notable cost
Connectivity options are impressively extensive. The GR70 features six USB-A ports, a front USB-C connection, USB4, two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DisplayPort 2.1 connections, 2.5Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. According to ASUS, it can support up to five 4K displays. A triple-fan QuietFlow cooling system manages thermal performance within the small chassis.
Even with these specifications, the prevailing pricing is challenging to overlook. Buyers are paying a considerable premium for a sleek, compact machine instead of receiving a desktop RTX 5070. The ROG GR70 may be one of the most powerful gaming PCs of its size, but spending over $3,000 can secure a lot of gaming desktops elsewhere.

New study finds gaming doesn’t harm your brain, but compulsive habits can
Your 100-hour save file may be innocent after all
For years, parents have been concerned that extensive gaming hours negatively impact their teenagers' brains. A new study suggests otherwise. It appears that the number of hours spent gaming does not directly cause significant harm. Researchers discovered that gaming hours were associated with minor positive effects on certain cognitive skills. The warning signs were more prominent among teenagers showing symptoms of compulsive or uncontrolled gaming. Therefore, individuals who find it difficult to stop playing, experience cravings, or deceive others to continue gaming despite adverse outcomes are the ones truly at risk.

Xbox’s Netflix strategy has reportedly failed. Now it’s focusing on hardware again
After years of pursuing the Netflix model, Microsoft's gaming strategy may be reorienting back towards hardware and first-party exclusives.
For much of the last decade, Xbox held on to a significant concept: to become the Netflix of gaming.
