Google Maps might soon allow you to order food for you through Gemini.

Your next takeaway order might begin within Google Maps

Google Maps has gradually transformed from a navigation app into an AI-driven discovery platform, aided by Gemini integration and features like Ask Maps. Now, it seems the app may be on the verge of enabling users to place food orders directly through conversational AI.

As reported by Android Authority’s Authority Insights, the newest beta version of Google Maps for Android includes hints about an unreleased feature that would let users instruct Maps to order food for them. While this functionality is not yet available, newly found code suggests that Google is in the process of developing it.

Gemini could soon manage your dinner order while you’re on the go.

The evidence originates from version 26.27.00.941319029 of Google Maps for Android. During an APK teardown, Android Authority discovered a number of text strings that point to a new “Ask Maps to order food” feature. The prompts feature phrases like “Say what you’re craving, explore local favorites, and Maps will order for you – even while on the move,” along with buttons labeled “Try it out” and “Maybe later.”

If this feature goes live as described, it could greatly streamline one of the most frequent tasks users engage in when they open Maps. Rather than manually looking up restaurants, perusing menus, switching to a delivery app, and completing a checkout, users might simply express their food cravings and let Gemini take care of the rest.

This would mark a further advancement in Google’s broader initiative toward AI agents capable of completing tasks rather than just answering inquiries. Over the past year, Gemini has transitioned from merely summarizing information to booking appointments, managing calendars, and enhancing everyday productivity. Ordering food would be another practical application of this concept.

      Several questions still remain unanswered.

It is still uncertain whether Google Maps will integrate directly with restaurant ordering systems or depend on third-party delivery services. Additionally, there is no information on whether the feature will operate entirely in the cloud or utilize Google’s newer on-device AI capabilities.

This distinction is important as Google has recently showcased agentic AI capabilities on the Pixel 10 series that can perform tasks independently, including placing orders. Should the Maps feature utilize similar technology, its initial availability may be limited to newer Pixel devices before becoming accessible on a broader array of Android phones.

For users, however, the benefits are clear. Ordering takeout during commutes or reserving food prior to arriving at a restaurant could save time and minimize the gap between discovering a place and actually dining there.

As with all APK teardowns, there’s no guarantee that this feature will be available to the public. Google often tests features that never make it to market. However, considering the rapid growth of Gemini across its ecosystem, AI-powered food ordering within Google Maps seems more a matter of when rather than if.

As AI accelerates digital exploitation, UK authorities urge parents to restrict who can view children's photos online

The National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation are advising parents to enhance privacy settings due to the rise in AI-generated abusive material.

Parents sharing photos of their children online are encouraged to reconsider this practice. New guidance from the UK's National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation recommends families make their social media accounts more secure, cautioning that publicly shared images are increasingly being harvested and manipulated by AI tools to create child sexual abuse material.

The two organizations assert that most parents are unaware that this is occurring. Criminals no longer need direct contact with a child to generate such content; they can extract a standard photo and process it through readily available nudify applications.

According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, most Americans favor banning social media for kids under 16, with even stronger support for age verification and parental consent requirements.

A significant number of US adults now advocate for prohibiting social media use for individuals under the age of 16, as revealed in a new Pew Research Center survey. This perspective aligns American public opinion with countries that have already implemented similar measures, such as Australia, which has enforced a ban, and the UK, which is contemplating one.

Support remains consistent across political and age demographics.

A BBC investigation has revealed that Instagram’s ad review system failed to block child abuse advertisements, sparking new concerns about Meta's moderation effectiveness and the escalating challenge of managing illegal content on social media.
