Samsung's Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra may finally replace that outdated selfie camera.

Samsung may finally be moving on from its old camera hardware.

Samsung has stuck with the same 12MP front camera on its flagship smartphones for what seems like ages, leading many to believe that change was unlikely. However, a recent leak offers some optimism. According to Ice Universe, a trusted source, GalaxyClub, which is known for its accurate leaks about Samsung, has indicated that we could finally see an upgrade to the selfie camera in Samsung's upcoming flagship devices, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra, and this change involves more than just a slight improvement in specifications.

The Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra are expected to feature a new 16MP front camera, which could utilize a square sensor akin to that of Apple's offerings. Both models are also anticipated to include a 50MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. This information was shared by Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) on July 3, 2026.

What changes are being made to the front camera?

Rumors suggest that both smartphones will have a new 16MP selfie camera. The increase in resolution points to potentially exciting advancements beyond a mere specifications enhancement. According to Ice Universe, GalaxyClub hints that Samsung may adopt a square sensor similar to the one introduced by Apple in its iPhone 17 series.

For those unfamiliar, the square sensor on the iPhone 17 series enables users to capture landscape selfies even while holding the device in portrait mode. This feature has garnered significant praise from users, including myself. It’s likely that Samsung wishes to keep pace with this trend for its upcoming flagship devices.

If these rumors prove accurate, users will be able to take both portrait and landscape selfies without needing to rotate their phones, as the sensor can crop in either direction from a single photo.

      What about the additional cameras?

The front camera isn't the sole enhancement on the horizon. Ice Universe has also pointed out that both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are set to feature a 50MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

Currently, the S26 Ultra is equipped with a 50MP ultra-wide and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera. It remains unclear whether these leaks pertain specifically to the new Pro series or if the 10MP 3x camera from the S26 Ultra will also receive a 50MP upgrade on the S27 Pro.

Of course, this information is still based on leaks, and Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed anything at this point. However, if these reports are accurate, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra could present Samsung's most significant camera upgrade in years. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I’m cautiously optimistic about the possibilities.
