Apple might introduce vapor chamber cooling in the iPad Pro by 2027.
Apple's upcoming iPad Pro may not exhibit significant visual changes, but it could see an enhancement that is practical for a slim tablet: improved cooling systems.
As reported by Bloomberg, Apple is evaluating four new iPad Pro models set for release in spring 2027. The devices are likely to maintain the existing 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes, focusing primarily on internal upgrades like faster processors. Additionally, Apple has been testing a vapor chamber cooling system for the iPad Pro, which could enhance prolonged performance and mitigate overheating issues.
Apple is adapting its cooling technology.
The iPad Pro won’t be Apple's first product to feature a vapor chamber cooling system. The company adopted this design trend with the iPhone 17 Pro, years after it became standard on Android devices to manage internal heat. Along with the vapor chamber cooling in the iPhone 17 Pro models, Apple switched to an aluminum casing, which facilitates better heat dissipation compared to the titanium material used in earlier models.
By introducing a vapor chamber cooling system, Apple is only aligning itself with industry norms and is not pioneering anything extraordinary. In the Android market, several companies, including Chinese brands like Red Magic, have already progressed beyond standard vapor chambers to implement liquid cooling systems. For instance, the Red Magic 11S Pro smartphone features such a system, and the upcoming Red Magic Astra 2 tablet will also utilize liquid-cooled thermal management. The advantages of this technology are evident.
“The company follows an 18-month upgrade cycle for the iPad Pro, suggesting that the vapor chamber could make its debut around spring 2027,” the outlet previously mentioned.
The design may remain largely unchanged.
The design of the forthcoming iPad Pro is anticipated to closely resemble that of its M4- or M5-powered predecessors. Apple introduced this new design language a little over two years ago, eliminating the secondary ultrawide camera and opting for the thinnest all-metal casing it has ever created for a tablet.
For a period, the iPad Pro held the title of the thinnest mainstream tablet. It was not until 2026 that it was outdone by Huawei’s flagship MatePad tablet, which has recently become available in Western markets.
This makes the projected cooling upgrade more compelling than a minor design update. If Apple keeps the iPad Pro slim while implementing faster processors, enhanced thermal hardware could allow the tablet to sustain performance levels during resource-intensive tasks such as video editing and gaming.
