PS Plus introduces Modern Warfare III in July, along with two other games that are worth your attention.
The lackluster Call of Duty campaign is accompanied by remastered multiplayer maps, alongside For the King II and CrossCode.

Starting July 7, PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to a new selection of games, featuring the most significant title Sony has offered in its Monthly Games in some time. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III takes center stage in this month's lineup, joined by the cooperative fantasy RPG For the King II and the retro-inspired action RPG CrossCode. All three titles will be available on both PS5 and PS4 and will remain accessible until August 3.
A blockbuster with a troubled reception
Modern Warfare III did not receive a warm welcome upon its release. In our review, we described the campaign as unremarkable, with its four-hour story failing to hold up against earlier entries in the trilogy. The Cross-Gen Bundle made available through PS Plus includes the campaign along with a collection of remastered multiplayer maps from the 2009 original and Modern Warfare Zombies, which allows squads to team up in an open-world mode.
Call of Duty
With the game now included in a subscription, trying out the full package and forming your own opinion about the campaign comes at no real cost. Even if the narrative does not capture your interest, the multiplayer aspect alone makes it worthwhile to add to your collection. The maps carry two decades of nostalgia, while Zombies provides an additional incentive to stick around after the story concludes.
Two smaller games deliver real value
The remainder of July's offerings leans towards slower, more intimate experiences. For the King II is a four-player cooperative RPG that fuses roguelite elements with tabletop-style strategy, serving as a sequel to a game that gained a dedicated following due to its genre-blending mechanics. Players can expect a combination of turn-based battles, resource management, and unpredictable runs that enhance the enjoyment of playing with friends.
Curve Digital
CrossCode features 16-bit graphics alongside real-time combat and dungeon puzzles, feeling more aligned with classic action-adventure games than modern RPGs. Its sci-fi narrative and precision platforming have earned it a cult status since its initial release, making this an excellent opportunity for those who missed it before.
Radical Fish Games
Sony has maintained the Monthly Games tier stable, even as it increased prices on shorter subscription plans earlier this year. Whether this adjustment feels justified may depend on which of these three games you would actually be willing to purchase at full price.

Sony is contributing to the decline of physical games, leaving preservation efforts to manage the fallout
A reported 2028 deadline for PS5 discs presents the industry with a time frame that still appears inadequately prepared to address.
Sony’s alleged intention to cease production of PS5 discs by 2028 would push PlayStation further into a digital-centric future, where access relies on licenses, storefront policies, and platform support that often doesn't extend as long as companies tend to assure.
This situation may benefit Sony while complicating matters for game preservation. Although physical media has never been a flawless archive, eliminating it before an effective alternative is available transforms the ongoing existence of older games into a crisis for others. Additionally, it raises concerns about long-term ownership, the rights to resell games, and whether players can genuinely depend on their purchases being accessible in the future.

Cinder City demands 64GB of RAM, and its other PC specifications are just as peculiar
Do you remember when 16GB of RAM was considered sufficient?
For years, PC gamers have humorously remarked that game developers treat hardware requirements as if they were shopping lists. Cinder City might have taken that joke a bit too seriously, as its newly updated recommended PC specifications call for an astonishing 64GB of RAM. This specification is surprising, especially since almost all other listed requirements appear relatively standard.

Xbox may allow users to digitize their game discs, and the timing seems ideal
Sony has provided no options for disc owners, while Microsoft's Disc2Digital could serve that purpose.
Earlier today, Sony revealed that it will stop producing physical game discs for new PlayStation titles beginning in January 2028. Microsoft appears to be following a similar path but with a more consumer-friendly method: Xbox users might not have to part with their disc collections.
According to Tom Warren from The Verge, Microsoft has been quietly developing a disc-to-digital feature for Xbox known internally as Disc2Digital, enabling players to convert their physical games into permanent digital licenses.
