Firmus, supported by Nvidia, plans to construct a 360MW AI data centre in Indonesia and anticipates securing $30 billion in offtake agreements.
**TL;DR** Firmus and DayOne are set to establish a 360MW Nvidia DSX AI Factory in Batam, Indonesia, which will produce 170,000 chips and is projected to generate up to $30 billion in offtake over six years.
Firmus Technologies, an Australian AI infrastructure firm valued at $5.5 billion, will construct its inaugural data center in Indonesia through an eight-year collaboration with Nvidia. The Nvidia DSX AI Factory, with a capacity of 360 megawatts, will be located in Batam, an island near Singapore, and is anticipated to commence operations in the first quarter of 2027.
Through a revenue-sharing and credit-support agreement, Firmus plans to acquire up to 170,000 Nvidia AI accelerator chips during 2027 and 2028. The company expects to secure $25 billion to $30 billion in offtake agreements over the initial six years of the partnership, as reported by Bloomberg.
The Batam facility will cater to AI-native clients as a multi-tenant site, in contrast to Firmus's Australian projects, which primarily serve hyperscaler clients. Co-CEO Tim Rosenfield mentioned to Bloomberg that market fluctuations related to AI stocks are "largely irrelevant" for the company's operational strategy. He emphasized, “We're building our business based on customer demand and the contracts we're securing.”
Firmus initially started as a Bitcoin mining venture in Tasmania in 2019 and raised $505 million in April with a valuation of $5.5 billion, during a funding round led by Coatue Management and supported by Nvidia. The company has a portfolio of data center projects throughout Australia and Singapore, including a partnership with CDC Data Centers for the development of up to 1.6 gigawatts across Australia by 2028. There has been a notable increase in data center investment in the Asia-Pacific region, with AirTrunk, backed by Blackstone, committing $30 billion solely to India.
Rosenfield did not provide any insights regarding IPO plans, although the company is anticipated to go public this year. This development contributes to Nvidia's ongoing DSX program, which collaborates with data center operators to implement GPU infrastructure on a revenue-sharing model without the need for upfront purchases. The campus will position Batam as a regional hub for AI computing, capitalizing on its closeness to Singapore’s financial and tech sectors. The demand for AI computing in the area is so significant that even Google has started renting GPUs from SpaceX.
