The business has announced that it has discovered a new PCIe Gen 5 SSD from ADATA, the XPG MARS 970, which surpasses the previously selected SSD option in terms of performance, efficiency, and long-term reliability.

      Framework notes that the new ADATA SSDs are significantly more affordable than the earlier Gen 5 SSD option, and the cost savings will be transferred to customers. Since Framework has yet to begin shipping pre-orders for the Laptop 13 Pro, current orders that included the previous Gen 5 SSD will be updated to include the new ADATA drives, along with the adjusted pricing.

      The SSD switch is positive news

      The greatest beneficiaries are those who had already pre-ordered with the old 500GB SSD. Framework has stated that the new 1TB ADATA drive is cheaper than the previously available 500GB SSD, meaning those customers will benefit from an upgrade to 1TB while also experiencing a decrease in their order's cost.

      New buyers of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro will also have access to ADATA SSD options in 1TB and 2TB sizes, as long as Framework has stock available. This presents a rare opportunity for laptop buyers to obtain a better storage solution for less in the current market climate.

      However, this situation may not persist. Framework has indicated that it has received indications of a potential rise in CPU prices soon, which could necessitate an increase in the overall cost of the Laptop 13 Pro for new orders in the upcoming weeks. Pre-orders are refundable prior to shipping, so anyone considering a purchase might want to act quickly to secure the current pricing.

      What’s driving the price increases across the industry?

      Framework’s warning regarding CPU prices coincides with reports that Intel and AMD processors are also experiencing supply issues. According to Nikkei Asia, PC and server manufacturers are encountering stricter CPU availability as chipmakers focus on server and AI-related demands, which offer higher margins and stronger demand. This has already resulted in processor price hikes of approximately 10% to 15% in some instances.
