GTA VI has officially received a price and will follow a no-disc policy for its physical edition.

Rockstar Games has officially disclosed the price for its eagerly awaited game, Grand Theft Auto VI, also known as GTA 6. The standard edition will be priced at $79.99 in the US, while the Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99 per copy for those willing to spend more. Pre-orders for the game begin today, June 26th, at midnight, allowing players to reserve a copy for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.

The price point is certainly on the higher end, yet it remains below the $100+ rumors that circulated a few weeks back. Compared to PC and console gaming standards, starting at $80 is still considered a substantial fee. To date, only Nintendo has managed to sell games at a similar price and has faced considerable criticism for it.

      What's included in the package?

“Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI commence at midnight local time on June 25, featuring the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition, which enhances the most immersive GTA experience to date with an exclusive assortment of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action woven throughout Jason and Lucia’s narrative,” stated the studio in its announcement.

The studio emphasizes that Grand Theft Auto 6 will focus on a single-player experience when it launches on Sony and Xbox consoles on November 19. Pre-order customers will also receive a Vintage Vice City. If you order the digital version of the game prior to November 19, you can pre-load it on November 12. Those who pre-order will also benefit from a month of free GTA+ subscription.

If you opt for the ultimate edition, you'll receive numerous additional bonuses, including exclusive sports cars with retro-futuristic designs, specially engraved weapons with high-performance scopes, personalized variants of these firearms, Vice City-inspired outfits and tattoos, a dedicated safe house vehicle, exclusive modifications, salon perks for makeup and styling, custom streetwear items, and a special garage, among others.

      The no-disc issue

On the other hand, the physical edition of the game will be released starting November 12, and it will contain a download code inside the box. The choice to release the physical version without a traditional disc has already sparked significant backlash on social media. Many eager fans are questioning the reasoning behind this decision, stating that given the studio's financial resources, it seems unusual that they are not providing physical disc copies of the game.

Some voices on social media suggest that by omitting a physical disc, Rockstar Games is reducing the likelihood of leaks and curtailing resale opportunities. Conversely, possessing a physical copy of a game holds considerable collector value, particularly for a title with such a significant cultural influence.
