Typically, foldable phones excel in multitasking, but they aren't particularly recognized for their camera capabilities. However, recent models from Chinese manufacturers have defied this trend, and now Vivo appears to be redefining the landscape once again. As it gears up for its launch in China later this month, Vivo has already revealed several key details regarding the camera and display of the Vivo X Fold 6.
The standout feature is its compatibility with the ZEISS G2 telephoto converter, an accessory that enables the foldable to achieve a 200mm equivalent focal length.
What makes this camera system notable

Vivo executive Han Boxiao confirmed via Weibo that the X Fold 6 will include a 200MP primary camera equipped with a 1/1.4-inch sensor. This upgrade makes the main camera larger than the previous Vivo X Fold 5, although the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro's camera was still bigger. Additionally, it will come with a ZEISS APO Super Telephoto lens that utilizes Sony’s LYT-602 sensor. The camera setup will be supported by Vivo’s V3+ imaging chip, which aids in image processing and video recording.
In recent years, Vivo has heavily focused on mobile photography, particularly with its X-series flagship devices, and the X Fold 6 extends this commitment to high-end mobile photography. The use of telephoto converter lenses is becoming common among top-tier Chinese smartphones, including the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra, with the X Fold 6 now likely to join their ranks. The promotional material suggests a 200mm ZEISS teleconverter kit, promising to enhance the zoom photography experience.
Suddenly making Samsung and Apple appear conservative

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has made strides in camera technology, particularly with the Fold7's 200MP main sensor. However, Samsung's current foldable still relies on small telephoto sensors. Apple, on the other hand, has yet to introduce a foldable iPhone. Current rumors indicate that its first foldable may only include wide and ultrawide rear cameras without a dedicated telephoto lens. This gives Vivo a distinct advantage in camera technology.
The X Fold 6 is also confirmed to have an 8.02-inch inner display featuring Samsung’s M14 luminous material, allowing for an impressive peak brightness of 5,000 nits outdoors and a minimum of 1 nit for nighttime use. Vivo has teased a more curved design, a 2.5D vertical metal frame, and a new Blue Hole color option. Earlier announcements also mention a Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chip, desktop mode support, while the rumored 7,000mAh battery remains unconfirmed. Unfortunately, global availability is still uncertain, but a Chinese release seems imminent.
