      Xbox fans have finally received the announcement they've been eagerly anticipating: Xbox console exclusives are back!

      During the recap of its Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Microsoft confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be exclusive to Xbox consoles. These will not be timed exclusives, meaning players shouldn’t expect them to arrive on PlayStation at a later date. Microsoft also clarified that previously announced multi-platform titles will still adhere to their original release plans.

      Recently, Sony declared that its first-party titles would remain exclusive to PlayStation. In response, Xbox's recent announcement mirrors that sentiment. The standout title in this lineup is clearly Gears of War: E-Day. Microsoft has revealed that the prequel will launch on October 6, 2026, available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, and Xbox Play Anywhere. Additionally, the official Xbox site lists Steam among the platforms for play.

      Console exclusivity is important in this context because Gears of War: Reloaded previously brought the franchise to PlayStation, leading many to speculate whether E-Day would follow suit. Microsoft has now clarified that the new Gears installment will not be available on PlayStation at launch or afterward, at least according to the current communications.

      E-Day is set 14 years prior to the original Gears of War and centers on Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they confront the initial emergence of the Locust Horde. Microsoft notes that preorders come with early access to the Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta, starting on August 6, 2026.

      Clockwork Revolution is another aspect of this new approach.

      The other significant confirmation is Clockwork Revolution, a steampunk, time-altering first-person RPG from inXile Entertainment. It will debut in 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Game Pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, and Steam.
