KPMG places Claude at the forefront of its 276,000 employees as part of its partnership with Anthropic.

The Big Four firm is integrating Claude into the platform utilized by its workforce and clients, beginning with tax and legal services, and has been designated as Anthropic's preferred partner for private equity.

The figure that characterizes the agreement is 276,000, representing the KPMG employees who will gain access to Anthropic’s Claude through a global alliance recently announced by the professional-services firm and the AI company. This initiative will encompass all of KPMG's personnel across 138 countries and territories.

For Anthropic, this marks yet another endorsement from a Big Four firm committing its workforce to Claude, reinforcing the enterprise advantage the company has cultivated among significant professional buyers. For KPMG, it reflects a belief that the firms it advises will evaluate its performance based on how it leverages AI, rather than simply on whether it utilizes it.

The process is more significant than the number of employees. Instead of providing staff with a separate chatbot, KPMG is integrating Claude into Digital Gateway, the Microsoft Azure-based platform that already houses its tax expertise, proprietary tools, and client data, where its team develops the tools they use on a daily basis.

KPMG has attached a specific figure to the transformation. Developing an AI agent to assist clients in adapting to changing tax regulations “previously took weeks and required teams to switch between multiple tools and chat windows,” stated Rema Serafi, vice chair of tax at KPMG US.

“With Cowork and Managed Agents incorporated into Digital Gateway, that same functionality now takes just minutes.” The focus is less about having a more intelligent assistant and more about reducing the time between conceiving an idea and executing it.

The most commercially significant aspect of the partnership is within private equity. Anthropic has designated KPMG as its preferred partner for implementing Claude and its agents within PE portfolio companies—businesses owned by private equity that seek to enhance efficiency.

KPMG has developed a range of PE-focused solutions around this, such as KPMG Blaze, which can embed Claude Code to assist portfolio companies in modernizing outdated IT systems and delivering AI-enabled software more swiftly.

This strategy aligns with the enterprise approach Anthropic has been pursuing elsewhere, this time directing efforts through the consultant rather than approaching the company directly.

Security is also integrated into the collaboration. Teams from KPMG and Anthropic will utilize Claude to identify and rectify vulnerabilities in critical systems, an effort governed by KPMG’s Trusted AI framework.

This governance language is significant for a firm focused on audit and assurance because marketing AI to clients in accuracy-sensitive fields necessitates a perception of careful deployment within its own operations.

The leaders expressed this sentiment. Bill Thomas, global chairman and CEO of KPMG International, referred to the alliance as a manifestation of “our shared commitment to responsible AI,” while Anthropic president Daniela Amodei remarked that KPMG is “applying the same standard to AI” as it does to its client work.

The alliance builds on two years of using Claude within KPMG’s US division, including its AI and Data Labs, and both firms have stated they will co-develop additional offerings for shared clients. The figure is 276,000; the critical question this deal will assess is whether a company primarily built on trust can incorporate AI into that very foundation.
