KPMG places Claude before all 276,000 employees in a partnership with Anthropic.
The Big Four firm is integrating Claude into the platform utilized by its personnel and clients, initially focusing on tax and legal services, and has been designated as Anthropic’s preferred partner for private equity.
The key figure in this agreement is 276,000, which represents the number of KPMG employees who will gain access to Anthropic’s Claude through a global partnership announced by the professional services firm and the AI company. This implementation will cover all of KPMG’s staff in 138 countries and regions.
For Anthropic, this marks yet another commitment from a Big Four firm to utilize Claude, thereby enhancing the enterprise dominance the company has established among major professional purchasers. For KPMG, this is a strategic move, betting that the firms it advises will evaluate it based on its use of AI, rather than merely on whether it employs the technology.
The approach emphasizes the mechanism over sheer numbers. Instead of providing staff with a standalone chatbot, KPMG is embedding Claude within Digital Gateway, the Microsoft Azure-based platform where its tax knowledge, proprietary instruments, and client information are already consolidated, and where employees develop the tools they utilize daily.
Two of Anthropic’s newer offerings, Claude Cowork and Managed Agents, are being directly integrated into that platform, starting with tools for tax and legal clients.
KPMG has made a clear statement about this change. Rema Serafi, vice chair of tax at KPMG US, remarked that developing an AI agent to assist clients in adapting to changing tax regulations “previously took weeks and involved teams toggling between various tools and chat windows.” However, “with Cowork and Managed Agents incorporated in Digital Gateway, that same capability is completed in minutes.” The emphasis shifts from merely having a smarter assistant to reducing the gap between concept and execution.
A significant aspect of the alliance pertains to private equity. Anthropic has appointed KPMG as its preferred partner for deploying Claude and its agents within private equity portfolio companies, the enterprises owned by private equity seeking increased efficiency.
KPMG has developed a suite of offerings tailored to private equity, including KPMG Blaze, which can embed Claude Code to assist portfolio companies in modernizing outdated IT systems and accelerating the delivery of AI-enhanced software.
This enterprise strategy is consistent with Anthropic's approach undertaken elsewhere, this time directed through the consultant rather than the company directly.
Security considerations are incorporated as well. Teams from KPMG and Anthropic will utilize Claude to identify and address vulnerabilities in crucial systems, with their collaboration supervised under KPMG’s Trusted AI framework. This governance language is particularly significant for a firm focused on audit and assurance; marketing AI to clients in fields that demand precision necessitates demonstrated careful deployment of the technology internally.
The leaders expressed these sentiments clearly. Bill Thomas, global chairman and CEO of KPMG International, described the partnership as a testament to “our shared commitment to responsible AI,” while Anthropic president Daniela Amodei stated that KPMG is “applying the same standards to AI” that it upholds in its client projects.
This partnership is built on two years of Claude application within KPMG’s US division, including its AI and Data Labs, and both firms have indicated that they will collaborate to create additional offerings for shared clients. The figure is 276,000; the real test of this agreement lies in whether a firm whose core value is trust can successfully incorporate AI into that framework.
