The Asus ROG Ally X receives a distinctive redesign featuring an OLED screen and tasteful gold accents that are not overly flashy.
The bundle features a translucent black and gold Ally X with an OLED display, TMR joysticks, and AR glasses.
Limited edition gaming hardware has a longstanding practice of adding a commemorative color or accent to existing products and calling it a day.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle, revealed at Computex 2026 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ASUS’s ROG brand, avoids this pitfall. Its enhanced design alone warrants further examination.
What distinguishes the Ally X20?
The most noticeable alteration is the appearance of the handheld. The X20 showcases a translucent black casing, reminiscent of the semi-transparent styles from the early 2000s, exposing a golden structure beneath.
The result is visually appealing without being overly flashy, a tricky balance to achieve when incorporating gold. Yes, I’m referring to those limited-edition iPhone modifications sporting garish gold designs.
In addition to its aesthetics, the X20 boasts an OLED display, a first for the Ally handheld line. The new Nebula HDR 7.4-inch screen includes a 120Hz refresh rate with FreeSync Premium Pro and can reach a peak brightness of 1,400 nits.
But that’s not all. The handheld supports Dolby Vision, with a response time of 0.2ms. The display is safeguarded by Corning DXC glass featuring an anti-reflective coating that reduces glare by 65%. The thermal design has been completely revamped to accommodate OLED’s increased heat sensitivity.
What other features are new?
The X20 integrates TMR joystick technology, said to be more accurate than Hall effect sensors, along with a Transforming D-Pad that toggles between four-way and eight-way settings.
The rear grips now have a rubberized texture for enhanced comfort during long gaming sessions. Inside, it is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, complemented by 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.
The X20 comes bundled with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, which connect through a single USB-C cable. For those who may not know, the glasses can project a 171-inch virtual screen at a distance of four meters via micro-OLED, refresh at 240Hz, cover 95% of the focused field of view, and include native 3DoF tracking.
Asus has yet to share the pricing and availability details for the new ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle, but it certainly appears to be an attractive option for gaming enthusiasts.

These are arguably two of Sony’s most intriguing hardware ventures outside of the PS5, especially for fighting game enthusiasts and desk-bound PlayStation users.
